Insomma piacevolissima serata...siamo stati davvero benissimo...
In bocca al lupo!!!

Great food and super value... difficult to find. This is the quintessence of a small Tuscan restaurant. It's downstairs from an entrance on street level; however, it's not located on a street, rather, on a narrow pedestrian walkway that connects the Sanctuary of St Catherine with Hotel Alma Domus and three pizza restaurants. The host speaks excellent English and may be willing to show you the wine cellar, which dates to AD 1000. See photos. Great food!

On our walk back from St. Catherine's Basilica we stumbled upon this restaurant and saw that they served local Sienese cuisine: boar and hare. We decided to give it a try and had one of the most amazing nights of our entire trip, thanks to the owner and chef Katia! Not only was she hospitable and generous, but she let us see their wine cellar - a cavelike room down a few flights of stairs that was almost mystical... if the experience and ambiance aren't enough to convince you, know that the food was fantastic! Get the ragu and the hare. Katia uses some of her grandmother's old recipes and has stories to tell about the locale and her cooking philosophy. Highly recommend!

A wonderful dining experience! Delicious traditional food of excellent quality for a surprisingly low price, very vegan-friendly and with exceptional, warm service. The melanzane in particular was made to perfection.
We arrived in Siena late on a Wednesday, two vegans and an omnivore, tired and hangry. We were about to settle for some uninspiring fast food when we stumbled upon this quaint little gem. Not holding much hope, we asked the lovely owner (doubling as the only waitress) if they had anything vegan, and when she said they did, we were prepared to settle for a tomato pasta (no fromaggio per favore). We were then joyously surprised to find the owner was very knowledgeable about vegan cuisine and had in fact been using vegan cheese as a default in several dishes.
In my family we like to try a bit of everything, so we ordered all the vegan options to share. Many waiters might have shown signs of dismay at our request to share one starter and one main (and three sides) between the three of us, but here they went out of her way to make us feel at ease and divided the dishes into three before serving them.
Everything tasted great and I doubt anyone could have noticed the cheeses were vegan.
We ended with some biscotti, dipped in a communal glass of dessert wine to the owner's recommendation.
We left a very happy bunch. Would recommend with all our hearts.

Very special experience. I’ve been to 72 countries & to Italy 5x & Florence 3x. It’s super cozy hidden in a small alley so right away you feel special. The owner & chef Katia greeted us warmly as did her lovely sweet chocolate Lab. Later she shared with us that all the recipes are from her grandmother who handed them down in a secret book, and who always had the dream to open her own small restaurant but never got the opportunity. So Katia did one year ago & so of course cooks from the heart & thinks about every dish that it’s a tribute to her grandmother & that this hopefully pleases her wherever she is now🙏
The dishes are simple but well-conceived, creative without being overly ambitious or at all pretentious. It’s like being served a home cooked meal by the grandmother everyone in the neighborhood acknowledges as the best cook in town👏
We tried the leek soufflé, which was different in a good way, with a crusty outside & creamy inside. My friend has the tripe entree which he deemed delicious although I don’t like organ meats myself. The rabbit was cooked to perfection with just a slight char. My wild boar ragu over noodles was ok, but could have been made more flavorful, as it was a bit bland, but better after adding Parmesan. We went there for lunch so skipped dessert
After lunch Katia treated us to a private tour of her wine cellar, which is 1,000 years old & used to be part of the abbey of the adjacent church. She can host private wine tasting & dining pairings there
She also provides catering that comes with free wedding planning, as that subject came upon because I found the castle I want to rent for my wedding the day before (she’s catered a wedding there before)! So now I’ve also found a nice, capable, reasonable wedding planner with her heart in the right place. Now all I have to do is find a nice, smart, sweet, skinny girl to fall in love with to marry!🤔🤣
I was born & live in NYC so can be quite critical. So you can believe my review
Oh, the credit card machine was broken so we had to pay cash. She said we could leave & come back to pay. So even that glitch helped demonstrate her character, which is really what makes this place special ❤️🙏
