Authentic Puerto Rican food?........ummm, Yes Please!!! This is a great little joint with some amazing food. We ordered the plantain balls and chicken cracklings for appetizers, amazing. For main dishes Chicken Mofongo(chicken legs in a plantain bowl with a potato stew) and Caribbean style chicken with beans and rice. So good! I'm no expert, but I dont think you could get it any better anywhere else. Service was friendly and prompt. For my Gluten free friends, server assured me that flour is only used in breading, empanadas, and tortillas. So get there and treat yourself!!!

Great hole-in-the-wall Puerto Rican restaurant. I had the fried plantains and the Pernil Asado with Arroz Con Gandules. I’ll be back!

I had Mofongo shrimp in garlic butter/oil/sauce (?) and onions, in a bowl filled with smushed formed plantain. I would have preferred shrimp tails removed (so I didn't have to use my fingers). When I had similar dish in Jacksonville it was calamari and was swimming in garlic butter. Can order with Creole sauce instead. Other mofongo with chicken, beef, etc are stews. Small diner, Puerto Rican staff. Unusual, exotic, pretty darn good.

This place is amazing!!! It is adorable and quaint inside.. and the food was shockingly delicious. The mofongo dishes were great, and the bread pudding was to die for. Super nice staff and a great experience. Would highly recommend. Authentic Puerto Rican food.

It’s great to have authentic Puerto Rican food available in Akron, and especially here in Ellet! I have only ever had Puerto Rican food in and around New York City, where I fell in love with it. Hayuya is as true Puerto Rican as any I ever had there, and is just as good. Yes, the restaurant is small, and the menu isn’t huge. Even so, the food is really good, and the owner, Amelis goes out of her way to make you feel welcome. I have had the mofongo with pork and steak so far, but my favorite dish has been their beef stew, Puerto Rican style. It’s probably the best beef stew I have ever eaten! Make sure you ask for the rice with pigeon peas. The rice is considered yellow, and some fool had complained on Facebook that it wasn’t. No- it’s a light yellow-ish beige, not food-dye bright yellow, as if that matters. Get it- it’s delicious, and much more interesting that plain white rice. One of my favorite things to get there is a side dish of maduros: fried plantains that are a bit sweet, but not diabetic coma sweet. I should probably not even mention them, because they sell out quickly, and I am hesitant about making them sell out even sooner. I had to return twice in order to get some, but it was REALLY worth the wait. And whatever you do- save room for a piece of their homemade Tres Leches Cake. It’s the owner’s mother’s recipe, and it is superb! This is not the fanciest restaurant in Akron, but this tiny place is clean, and it gets as much TLC as this young entrepreneur can muster. It’s a joy to have these folks here, so I strongly recommend that you try Hayuya and treat yourself to something different. I’m glad we did, and we love going back!
