Ruben's is a hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant and grill.
Ruben's place is a little gem. He has a passion for food, and prepares some of the best tasting examples of his native food that you will find in ABQ. My Menudo was masterfully done --second only to that served at El Paragua in Española. Red, spicy, and loaded with perfectly cooked tripe. Delicious. The Dazzler's Ceviche was fresh tasting with plenty of lime juice to give it the right amount of acidity. Darren's Shredded Beef Tacos were small, four to the plate, and downright delicious. He asked for them to be gently spiced, and they were. The beef was tender, tasty, and slightly moist -- perfectly cooked. The accompanying rice was flavorful, and the beans were among the very best I have had anywhere. hey rank right up there with those at Mary & Tito's. On my next visit, I will ask Ruben to make me a bran and chicharron burrito.
The horchata is excellent.
If you are craving REAL Mexican, you need to try this place. Ruben knows what he is doing. You will love his dishes. And if you are craving REAL New Mexican, you can't beat Mary & Tito's, my absolute favorite place in all of New Mexico.
How Good? Ruben's is the whole package, the Authentic Mexican food, the People and Hospitality. Right from the start get the Casa Blanco Cheese to dip your chips in, that smokey flavor with onions and peppers is fantastic. Ruben is one of those people who just loves cooking, and it shows here. I'm a softy for the Burritos (Steak or Pork so hard to decide.) and Enchiladas, my wife loves the Chicken Fajitas and my Daughter adores the Pork Tacos. (They even subbed in great tasting Fries for her Beans n Rice.)
We go out of our way to eat here whenever we are in the area. You are gonna love it.
How it took me so long to try this place I'll never know. But I regret it because it is such good new Mexican food. I'm obsessed with all the tacos. Each one has its own delicious flavor. Chicharron is a favorite of mine. I want to try the whole menu. The chile relleno is a classic egg fried. Spicy chile. Small and simple dining area. Another awesome spot for a casual authentic eat here in Albuquerque. Thank you !
Tried this place because we found it off of a Google review! It was right down the street and me and my wife loved this place. Great service, amazing food and the price is amazing!
I love this food. It's authentic Mexican food that is delicious. They have amazing lunch special prices and other specials. So delicious, best in Albuquerque hands down.
This is Mexican food (not new Mexican but they do serve some x-mas chile) and yes, the flavor is there, you can tell because the cook have like 20+ yrs of experience. Rubens burrito I had and carnitas gordita is 5 star, nice waitress always taking care of your coffee cup. They take cards and Tap payment for your phone, is not expensive, receipt shows what I pay for 2 coffees, the bigger burrito, a full dinner enchiladas plate, extra eggs and extra gorditas (the wife was hungry 😋)
Very good New Mexican food. I had there red chile, beef enchiladas. The chile is spicy and had a good taste. The beer had a good flavor. Add some sour cream on top and it was perfect. The pinto beans and rice were also very good. Overall a very good and authentic dish. Come and eat here.
My favorite little New Mexican gem in ABQ. Very home style feel to the food, pretty straightforward but diverse menu. I often get my favorite, the red chili beef plate. My kids have gotten burritos and quesadillas before and they're ample and delicious. The homemade corn tortillas are awesome, much better than many other places. I've also gotten the torta and enchiladas and both were excellent.
This here is a quaint Mexican restaurant with bold flavors and authentic plates. Food portions are generous and satisfying. Service is good but the wait is exceptionally long and that's why it didn't get 5 stars
Craving posole on a rainy, cold day and gave this place a try. The posole was dynamite...definitely better than many other places in town aside from El Modelo... Will definitely be back.
Great customer service 💯 big portions, they have there own style of flavor. When in the area great spot to eat.
I got the taco lunch special, which was 4 tacos and a drink for seven dollars. What a great deal! The food was excellent, and the staff was fast and friendly. I will definitely be going back
