Moved from Altoona to State College over 20 years ago and I'd honestly have to say there are very few things about the city I miss. Texas Hot Dogs however is an exception. Just the best dog-gone dogs and chili sauce hands down. There've been times the kids and I have made the 45 minute trek just to pick up a few along with some Chili-Mac and fries. Its too bad we don't have a decent dog joint in my town but these guys are worth the trip.
A never fail place to get awesome "original" Texas Hots, fries and some absolutely awesome macaroni and cheese!!!
I was in Altoona for the night this weekend, had checked into a motel, and was looking for a quick and easy dinner...that wasn't a typical 'same old fast food' place. Found Texas Hot Dogs on Google maps, and decided to check it out.
I'm glad I did; the staff was friendly and efficient...I placed my (carryout) order (1 hot dog with everything, 1 burger with everything, an order of hot pepper cheese balls, and the Texas style mac & cheese), and it was up and ready in about 4 minutes.
The food was hot and delicious, well worth the price (about $12) and filled me up. I highly recommend Texas Hot Dogs, and will definitely be back the next time I find myself in the area!
I have always wanted to go here and never did. I was glad I got to go the food was delicious and the prices great and I plan on going back soon, I really enjoyed it
The Texas hot dog a.k.a. chili dog, gives my 24 year favorite; skyline chili, a run for top spot or it’s a close 2nd. Layers of flavor well balanced, nothing overly powerful and the chili sauce has me wanting more. I usually don’t give reviews, except for right now because I’m a big fan.
Very inexpensive and great food
Not a bad place to grab a quick bite to eat. The place has been serving hungry patrons for over 100 years, which makes eating here just as much a participation in history as it does a filling of the tank. The staff is experienced and can put together hotdogs faster than you would expect. The food is on the saltier side, so if you are sodium conscious customer be mindful. All in all, it is a good place with lots of history, and certainly worth a try.
Usually 5 stars however today instead of getting light onions like I ordered I got ALOT OF ONIONS. Couldn't eat even after scraping most off. I usually use downtown location but this is the first time 58th St messed my order up and I order here Alot. On 6 out of 7 days I would suggest. This is why I still gave 4 *
