Visiting Austin and realize it's hard to find good Vietnamese food around here let alone authentic. So if you're looking for good authentic Vietnamese food, this is the place! This is family run and owned. Everyone here is very friendly, attentive and quick. Good spot to grab a quick bite (especially if you have a sudden craving). Clean inside and can fit large groups. Their signature Bun Bo Hue is very flavorful and not too salty like a lot of other places.
If you ask me which Vietnamese restaurant in Austin I would suggest, my next question would be, “for what dish specifically?” because if you’re wanting some bun bo hue then look no further because it was ON POINT here! Great flavor, portion-size, and value for what you pay. Paired this with some cha gio which was good as well.
The com ga thit nuong? It was good! However, given how great the previous dish was, I desired more here primarily because I was hoping for more of a charcoal, grilled flavor from the meat and didn’t get that. Additionally, I would have liked the opportunity to order broken rice (com tam) instead of the regular white rice I got.
That said, they have a huge menu to choose from, so I’d like to come back sometime and try some of the others!
55c is one of my faves, a crispy rice noodle with beef, chicken shrimp, mushrooms, carrots, broccoli and bean sprouts in a garlic sauce. It's a lot of food for what you pay. You will definitely get full off of it! The staff is really nice and they are able to get the food out quickly.
Great pho.lots of meat
Very good flavor and authentic
Thai tea is very small and little expensive.
Hole in the wall joint with lots of people which tell you it's good.
Ordered small pho with rare steak and tripe. Broth a bit on the saltier and greasier side, but still good flavor. Meat quality seems very good, and lots of meat was in the bowl. Noodles are good as well, but got soft towards the end. Pho comes with veggies and sauces are on the table. Portion size for small is good.
Very busy at 12:45 on a Tuesday. All tables full. Tables were pretty clean, would come back!
No frills dining. Loved the quick service and delicious food!
Authentic Vietnamese food, fresh ingredients and large portions, bravo!
amazing pho! broth was so good and noodles are cooked nicely..!
Best Asian restaurant in the Austin area hands down. I have been to this restaurant over a dozen times. If I lived closer, there is no doubt that I would go even more often. Growing up in Houston, I was spoiled with a plethora of Asian options throughout Chinatown. Despite Austin being severely lacking when it comes to Asian options, Tan My is up there with the best options in Houston. It's flat rice noodles stir-fried might actually be the best that I have ever had. You can really taste the wok in the dish. You would be really hard pressed to find a place that does it better. The fact that it remains open after decades is a testament to its quality and taste.
One of the first Vietnamese restaurants I started going to when I first moved to Austin. They were always welcoming to me and my family, and just about everyone that comes through the door. You can tell from the interactions with most of their patrons that they are mostly regulars that come here. This place is excellent, the food quality is top notch and prices have gone up very little over the years. I always come for the Pho soup, but their hidden menu gem is the fried Pho #55C, the noodles and sauce are so good. Covid and lack of people to work make the restaurant hours a little funky but I'm just glad they are finally open again and the food and the owners make it well worth coming. Give it a try, I highly recommend this place.
