I am from Iowa and have been in Powell, WY for several years. We have many great Dutch bakeries in Iowa, Jaarsma being one of the best. However.... your stroopwafels are not even comparable - they blew every other one I've had out of the water! WOW!

Hands down one of the best and necessary places to try out in Billings, Montana! Although the place may not be fancy and the attire needed can be anything from what you're wearing from the gym, a swim, a day out or just a pop in from work a sense of welcome is always in the air. The food is authentic and the owners give everyone a piece of themselves. If you get a moment chat with the staff and learn a little behind the place. Whatever you do, do not leave without getting the famous caramel cookie waffles!

A Billings staple.. My wife and I made an early afternoon trip to this restaurant and the food was fantastic. She's not from this area and had never been. The promise of breads, clean sandwiches, and soulful soups attracted her and I was pleased to be her escort for experience. I'd not been there in a few years and was feeling guilty about it - sometimes this happens with a cornerstone business. After our lunch, I regret my absence.

This is a bakery. The customer orders at the counter, takes a seat, and the food is brought out. The interior is homey with a rewarding proximity to the busyness of the baking area. The tables are thick, solid wood, and comfortable. The one thing I wouldn't rave about is the cleanliness, but that's certainly not to say the restaurant is dirty. It's not. It's just a bit dated and cluttered for my liking but once the food showed up, that stopped mattering.

I ordered a slice of the spinach crab quiche, a flaky Danish pastry with sausage, and my wife got the vegetable sandwich with sesame seed bread. The quiche was excellent and the best I've had in town. Moist and flaky, it wasn't overpowered with crab, but delicately enhanced by it. I was very, very happy with this dish. I followed it with the sausage pastry which I was also enamored with. It's a slight whisper of a meal when ordered by itself but it the flavors are so enticing, the pastry so light and crispy, it's just a beautiful food and worth the trip. As for the sandwich, my wife was happy. I didn't try it but when it arrived, we both were blown away at how appetizing the sesame seed bread looked. So soft and apparently quite tasty - she polished it off in no time. My only complaint, and this is small, was the slice of side bread that came with my meal. It was a poppy seed white bread that tasted a bit old. We estimated its birth was sometime yesterday morn, but no biggie.

After lunch, we went after small deserts and ordered the caramel chocolate brownie, the peanut butter chocolate brownie, and three Ice Cube chocolates from the display case. The brownies were good but they've some competition here in town, for sure. Poets does a better job in this department. Dutch Brothers use more cocoa so the brownies are slightly bitter and a bit more bland. Not to say we weren't satisfied, but if you're out perusing the scape for these treats in particular, remember your options.

And that's about it. As for prices, the Caramel Cooke Waffle is completely reasonable. The quiche and pastry were about $3.50 a piece, the sandwich $7, the brownies are $1 a piece, and a soft drink was around $2. With the tip, two of us walked out less than $20 poorer and that's not bad for a pleasant meal in a sensational piece of the town's dining history.

Thank you for your time.

Lunch at The Dutch Bros. I blogged about these guys a few years ago. (See muellerstuff.blogspot.com for May 2008) We usually stop in on Saturday mornings. Between 12 and 1 it seems fairly crowded but earlier or later it is more relaxed. They have nice combos: for me it is always the sausage in a nice croissant and the really good variety of soup, especially tomato basil. Carol usually tries a more substantial sandwich. The egg salad is very good and not ruined by too much celery.

More than just cookies. I thought this was just a cookie store but they have wonderful sandwiches, soups, quiche and sandwich pastries. The lunch special was a lunch pastry, soup, drink and cookie. They were all so flavorful and the cookie was amazing. It was a group lunch so we had the fruit pizza too. That was tasty and beautiful. I'll be back.

More than just a cookie!. Dutch Brothers Bakery has a small restaurant and small menu, but their love for food is great! I have yet to have a bad pastry, sandwich, or soup there. Their friendly service and casual atmosphere is just the place for an lunch date. I always bring people here for a good sandwich. Their curry chicken sandwich on sunflower bread is a must have! Their soups change daily but you can check ahead on their website to see what's on tap. The quiches are divine and the cheesecake is transcendent. Don't forget to get a couple packs of the famous stroopwaffles on your way out.

The Best. The lunch special with Chicken Curry soup and a Dutch sausage pastry is my favorite meal on earth. And it's a deal price wise. What more could you ask for?

The Dutch brothers have been in business here on 17th St for at least 20 years, always dishing up good soups and sandwiches. You can see how crowded it is at lunch above. Read More: http://muellerstuff.blogspot.com/2008/08/more-good-restaurants-in-billings.html

The food is delicious! Best tomato basil soup ever! There's not many tables, so you may need to wait a little, but it's totally worth it. The caramel Cookie Waffles are the best!

Less of a secret these days, but still exceptional gem of Billings. The Tomato Basil Soup is exquisite, rich, and full of flavor. It has spiral pasta in it! ...not to be missed. Try the lunch special Soup with Sausage Roll and spicy mustard.

My Favorite Breakfast Place In Billings! And if you knew me you would know I hate oatmeal. But let me tell you, the blueberry oatmeal is what I get often. The quiche is incredible. And the pastries are to die for. Yes its closed Sunday and Monday's, but you have just got to go!. The owner is from Holland and if you have been overseas and no what their pastries taste like in Europe, you know what a treat it is to have this place in Bilings.

This place is awesome!! I was in the area for work, and was never expecting to find a Dutch bakery/cafe. I was born in Amsterdam, and if I want some of the items they offer, I need to make them myself. I bought some of their stroopwafels (caramel waffles), and had to come back the next day to buy more to take home to my family. Outstanding! Met the owner and spoke with him for a few minutes and he was very friendly. I will be back if ever in the area again!!
