Great train ride to the top of beautiful Mount Washington. Fall colors are beautiful around the station and in the drive to the station. It is best to buy tickets in advance. Regular train costs around 85, which I felt is a bit pricey, but the experience is worth it. There are multiple ways to get to the top of Mount Washington. You can drive to the top, you can hike and obviously you can take the train. Train is a unique experience, but if you love hiking, this is one of the best places to do it. The train ride to the top takes around 45 minutes. The guide was very informative. The views at the top are mind-blowing. We get an hour at the top to explore around. Return back ride is what I enjoyed the most with really nice views looking from top moving down. The train is slow, and kids' excitement goes away after a few minutes of the start of the trip, but they were exited in the return journey for sure.

Surreal experience! Highly recommend if you visit the White Mountains area. It is hard to believe that they open all year long, except holidays, even in the snowy conditions! We came here during the first snow of the season around Nov 10th. The drive to go up to the station during was a little challenge with wet snow conditions along the narrow roads leading up to the stations. Large parking lot in the area and a beautiful view! The ticketing station located on the lower level. Very friendly staff manning the ticketing station. During the winter, the train go for only about 15 minutes and they stop at some areas where you can do marshmallow roasting by the fire pit and they provide hot coffee. You have to buy the package if you want to do roasting by the fire pit. It cost an extra $12 that includes hotdogs and buns and marshmallow and some snacks. There is also a large souvenir shop nearby the ticketing section and large dining area where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful view by the windows overlooking mountains. Really great experience!

It was an AWESOME experience. It was smoky due to the Canadian fires, but the close views were still absolutely gorgeous! We saw a couple of hikers on the way to the summit. We had Tim giving us all the information on the way up and Fred on the way down from the summit. They were very funny and very informative. I'll be coming again next year!

We rode the cog steam train. It was pretty awesome! Great views, awesome tour guide and excellent brake man going down the very steep mountain. Views at the top, above the clouds were beautiful. Thankful for the observatory at the top. Small museum, store, concessions, restroom and post office!

It was a wonderful experience with great views all the way. Book the tickets in advance and select the three seats side, which has great views. There was one stretch that was too steep and a bit scary. Otherwise, the train ride was an enjoyable experience. The train doesn't go more than 5mph, so you don't feel the altitude difference until you see the mile marker. Big kudos to the track/brake men who carefully handle the train while entertaining the passengers as well. It will be good to have a bug spray, as the area around the rocks at the top has bugs and insects. You get to spend only an hour on top, which I think is way too little for the price you pay. But overall, we enjoyed the trip and glad that we made it!

Absolutely amazing and unique experience. Book the steam engine well in advance and enjoy your hour long ride to the summit with stunning views and excellent guide from the brake man. Worth every cent.

The trust in 150 year-old cogs! We truly enjoyed the cog-trains, speeding past at 5mph to the top of the Northeastern US’ tallest summit, Mt. Washington. People do treks here, but trust me, the cogs are perhaps the most entertaining and educational way to reach the summit. The engineer is also a tour-guide, who explains everything, starting from the engineering involved in the cog rails to the history of the mountains. On a fall day, I recommend taking the sunset arrival, for it helps you take in the best views the mountains have to offer in the golden sunset.

Was very hesitant to take this tour as I am afraid of heights. The staff was extremely friendly and engaging...even funny..made me relax and enjoy the ride. I sat in the middle so I was able to ignore the one section that was super high off the ground. Only lasted for a minute or 2 and then we were close to the ground again. They are all very professional and good at what they do which made me feel comfortable too. Not bad at all! Please make sure to check the weather before you book your trip! Cloud cover can put a damper on visibility. We had some clouds move through but got very lucky! Great experience, glad I went!

Sunday 10/1/2023, had a fantastic visit and ride to the top. Would do it again and again. We took the 4 pm bio diesel engine. We had prior stuffed our backpacks with warm winter clothes that we started to put on as soon as we got to the top. Hand warmers would have made for a nice addition now that I think about it. The weather changes fast and cold up top. I took a short time lapse of the clouds, it turned out real neat. The ride down gave us a bit of sunset colors out in the distance. When we got to the top the gift shop was closed and no food service available as they had closed for the day already. It's always a good idea to pack snacks anyways. Bathrooms are located up top but not on the train. When online to buy tickets you have option to sit on train side with 2 seats or 3. We of course did the 2 side. We wont do that again because the 3 side had more expansive views to see out. We purchased our 2 adult tickets online the day before. If it's during peak leaf season definitely buy tickets days if not weeks or months in advance. Being that we took the last train up it's also good to know that if your hungry when you leave there and you want to grab dinner, there is a few places to choose from and even then you may find they close early. We drove another 30 minutes to find a brewpub that was open at 8pm.

This was so much fun! Tim was great on the way up, and Darlene was great on the way down. They were informative and funny. It was really cold and windy at the top but what an experience. At the top, they have a place to get something warm to drink or food to eat. There is a gift shop as well as a museum. The museum was very interesting. You get an hour at the top, which is enough time to get pictures at the summit sign, something to eat or drink, visit the museum, and use the bathroom. Don't miss your train back down! They do remind you.
