I love this place! Each time we have gone the food has been excellent! Last night a guest we brought there did not enjoy what they ordered. Not only did they substitute her meal for another menu item, they came and apologized twice and made sure everything else was satisfactory! I highly recommend visiting them I have always found the food absolutely delicious and their prices are very reasonable!
Don’t miss basically anything about Bridgeport except this place. Amazing food!
Nothing amazing but good greasy food. Had the cheeseburger, MAC n cheese bites, clam strips, and fish platter. Disliked coleslaw, clamstrips were the favorite thing I ate. Had ordered clam chowder but they were all out of it. Go figure.
It's no longer cash only! (10 dollar card minimum though) One of the best cheeseburgers I've ever eaten. One of the only cheap yet delicious late night spots !
Cash Only. Must try the deep fried mac 'n cheese. It is worth the wait in line.

Merritt Canteen is the best!. I have a long history with the Merritt Canteen It's a Bridgeport Classic has been there for 50 years. I love the food and the service is always the Standard of You get it as soon as it's cooked and that's really fresh! No Hot lamps. It;s a great place when your hungry for Hamburger French fries and Soda In a hurry... I would recommend it in a second!
An institution. As good as ever. The hot dogs rule, and the coffee is excellent.
My boyfriend loves the chilli dogs here. I got a veggie burger with fries was just ok. But for meat eaters this is a great place.
At first I thought it would be some run down grease trap in the middle of Bridgeport, but boy was I wrong. This place is a diamond in the rough. I had the fried shrimp platter, homemade onion rings, and steak egg and cheese sandwich. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection, and all made within the span of only 7 minutes. Fast food done right.
I've lived this place since I've been a kid. I've traveled throughout many different places across the world and I always try finding a burger that hits the spot like at Merritt. Nothing like their double bacon cheeseburger anywhere.
Though spicy for most, their chili dog is legitimately my all time favorite. It's not your traditional chili, but it's a great tangy, zesty, smoky sauce slathered a perfectly cooked dog.
I have to go everytime I'm in Bridgeport, CT.
Pro: Ordered on the app and picked up in the restaurant. Food was what we ordered on the app.
Con: The bread was on the soggy side when picked up. The similar sandwiches weren't labeled(making me go through them to find the difference) And they give very little condiments (a large box of curly fries and 4 small packets of keychup)
Overall good stop for food
One the best places in town to grab a quick old fashioned burger or hotdog without the fancy frills of an expensive 20$ burger or the cheap blandness of chain places. Chili is HOT but tasty. The fries pair well with the food. It's worth the drive and the wait on busier days. Located near the mall and other local shops
