The fried chicken is always on point and is my favorite along with collard greens and yellow rice. I even order it with no flour since I'm gluten free. The bar takes my dining experience to another level. Food and fuel for the soul!
Stopped in after a Service in Bridgeport before returning home to Stamford. Glad I did. The Sunday Buffet filled me up. The food was great. That may well be my after Sunday Service spot even when I attend my home church in Stamford. Well worth the drive on 95.
Arrived early for breakfast and everrrrthing was delish! Fish n Grits, and all of the above. To top it off mamosa's were served at no additional cost. My kinda spot. Will frequent often. Go early unless you want to wait
Great Soul Food at Miss Thelma's, BPT, CT. Miss Thelma's (Bridgeport, CT) is a diamond in the rough. While the decore is a bit "gritty" the food is great. I've visited twice over the past six months - and had the same meal both times: shredded pork, greens and black-eyed peas. Both times, the food was very good (and also very affordable at $10). One caveat: Be sure to order from the menu. There's a buffet - but it never looks all that inviting. Recommended.
Took my daughter here for lunch since she needs to visit 5 new places over spring break for her project. After reading mixed reviews I was skeptical about coming here. I must say that those who received poor service I feel bad for because the service was great. Maybe it was because we were also the only people there.
As for the food, my daughter ordered the downtown fish and chips with a side of white rice and corn nibbles. I ordered the wings with collard greens and mac and cheese. Plus we got empanadas (chicken and spinach and cheese). My daughter said everything was delicious. The rice was a little salty but still good. She absolutely loved the spinach and cheese empanada. My food was good. Wings were nice and crispy and the honey on the side was great. The Mac and cheese was not even warm, but it was good. I personally would have liked a little more cheese, but that's just because I believe everything could have a little more cheese. The collard greens were tasty, but felt like it was missing something. Just can't figure out the something is.
Overall wonderful experience. The empanadas were a little costly at $8 each so I probably will not order that again. Bathroom was clean as well as the establishment. Over all a 4 just because the sides were not priced in the menu so it wasn't until the bill came that I found out how much they were. ($26 was just for a bowl of white rice, corn and 2 empanadas. Not worth it in my book).
I will probably be back in the near future.
The food tastes better than it looks! Rich, yet balanced flavor profile, not excessively buttered or oily.
If you're a fan of soul food, you have got to check out Miss Thelma's. They've survived in Bridgeport for decades, and it's no surprise why. 🤌
Love this place! Whether it's for weekend brunch or Wine Down Wednesdays, it's always a great time. Be sure to make reservations & take note who took you spoke to
First visit to meet friends, also their first time too. The service was exceptional and the food was good. It game out in a timely manner considering how busy they were. We were there for two hours and my throat got sore from trying to converse over the music. The DJ is really good and the songs will get you singing and dancing. It's more like a club that sells food. Go and have a good time. Definitely will repeat it even though it's a little over an hour drive
One of the best restaurant in downtown Bridgeport. with a wide variety of options on the menu, not to mention the authenticity and the taste it's a must go if you're in downtown Bridgeport.
OMG the food was delicious..Can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu. Our waitress was awesome as well.
