Amazing prices and awesome food!

Great Diner. I have visited Sonny Boy on at least ten occasions in the last five years, all of which have been for breakfast.

FOOD:

The food here is very good, especially given the low prices. The eggs have always been prepared competently, which is to say, never undercooked and always as ordered. It would also be very easy for an order to get messed up at a diner that is constantly so busy, but that has never happened.

I also prefer for my toast not to be cut in half because I like to place the egg on the toast, and they have never mistakenly cut the toast in half.

The Veggie omelet from here is quite pleasant, and comes fully stuffed with onions, peppers, cheese and tomatoes. They don't necessarily have a Veggie omelet, per se, but they'll put whatever you want in one of their omelets.

I would like it if they had an option of organic eggs and would just charge you more for the eggs. As a vegetarian, I disagree with the treatment of commerical chickens, so would prefer organic free-range eggs. I can understand that it is difficult for a diner to offer such a selection, though. However, I would come here more often if such a selection were offered.

The home fries here are typically kind of mushy, so I usually get an order of french fries with my eggs and toast, they don't go too bad with it.

SERVICE:

The service is usually very good at this location. Despite how busy the place is, you'll never go dry, and it's full of all of the, "What'll it be, hun," "How're you're eggs, Sug," and, "Get you a refill, Sweetie," that you would expect from a diner. Classic.

Anyway, all of the servers do a really great job making sure everyone is taken care of, and to be honest, I have occasionally tipped in excess of the total of the bill. On one or two occasions, the server was terrible, but that's a rarity. Although I never saw any of the terrible servers again, it must be factored in.

SERVICE: 4/5

ATMOSPHERE:

The atmosphere is very nice. I would say that there are three basic seating areas (not including the bar) and there is plenty of room to move around everywhere except for the bar. You will occasionally have a bit of a wait when you go up to pay your check, I wish they had it such that the waitresses took care of that.

CLEANLINESS:

This place is very clean, for a diner. The only complaint I would ever have is sometimes they take awhile to clear the dishes off of vacated tables.

PRICE:

As you know, breakfast prices are usually a, "Race to the bottom," but these prices are stupidly low! You're talking about two toast and two eggs any style with home fries for $1.49-$1.99 (depends on the day), that can't be touched!!! Where else can you have four fresh cooked eggs and an equal amount of toast for $4.00?

Seriously, this place makes McDonald's look expensive.

OVERALL:

There's no better breakfast value in the valley. I suppose the prices at Perkins in Wheeling are about the same, but their food there is really iffy. The consistency of the food that you will be served at Sonny Boy is unmatched, especially at this price point.

Some people are above eating at an establishment such as Sonny Boy, which is an old diner, but if you want to be above good food at a price so low it's silly, that's your choice.
