I like this place. It's been in Brownsville forever. I haven't been since i was a kid, and the carpet and furniture are still the same.
That said, it's still a nice solid seafood place.
Definitely NOT Marisco (Mexican style seafood). It has classics as shown in the menu.
We all ordered different dishes to try a few things. We enjoyed all the food.
This is small town seafood (and we now live in Dallas for reference), not a fancy place. Simple and small menu. The food tastes homemade which is great.
Fish sandwich on toast was good. A real / normal portion and the fried fish was done well.
Broiled Shrimp was also a good normal portion. Tasted similar to some shrimp scampi, just much less buttery.
The stuffed shrimp was big and very filling. The crab stuffing had some green/bell pepper in it?? It was different and good.
I didn't try the seafood soup, but the 2 people in our group who did finished it all up. Nothing left at all.
We also ordered oysters. They were good and fresh. They even included a monster sized one that was the size of my plate. Yes, some shells look small, but the oyster covered the entire shell. I've been to other big city chains where the small oysters are small.
Finally, the staff is just laid back and friendly. Great to be there with them.
I've been coming here for many years and have never had a bad experience. This last visit I had a shrimp cocktail as an appetizer and the cocktail sauce is so good. For my meal I had the stuffed shrimp with a baked potato and salad. The shrimp are stuffed with a crab type of filling and are breaded and fried, it comes with a total of 5 stuffed shrimp. I had not tried them before as I usually always get an order of half shrimp, half fish but wanted to try something different this time. I was not disappointed. Our server was very friendly and came back to check on us repeatedly to ask if we needed anything. The service, food, atmosphere and staff at the Oyster Bar have always been top tier, and that's why we have been coming here for years. ♥️
Love this place. It's always consistent and delicious. We try to go every time we're in town. Oysters are always fresh. The staff is always friendly. The environment is always welcoming.
This place has been my favorite since childhood. Whenever I visit my hometown, I make sure to eat here. 😊 However, they do charge more for takeout orders without telling you. 😕 That’s why I gave them four stars instead of five.
Excellent food. Fish and shrimp plate was delicious. Excellent service! Can't say enough for good quality customer service these days. Overall highly recommended when in Brownsville, Tx.
First time there, had a fried baby snapper and stuffed shrimps, both were awesome, haven't really been to other sea food places but this one is very nice, totally worth to give it a try. Will definitely go back.
ive loved this place my whole life. i remember my family going here as a treat whenever we did something good.
the food is always the same. very tasty. i always get the fried shrimp and the shrimp cocktail.
lately the waitstaff has been a little slow but the food makes up for it.
The oysters were delicious! The staff and owner really care about the customer's feedback. I definitely recommend coming here. The atmosphere is nice as well.
Wonderful basic seafood restaurant. Delicious fish tacos and incredible deviled crab!

All restaurants in brownsville close by 8 or 9 not like mcallen 😊 majority of places are open late. This place was about to close 10 min to 9 and the hostes was so welcoming had no hesitation ro serve us. The server was so helpful in ordering our food since 1st time there. This plate Is so recommended!! The fish was so fresh not mushy like other places and the shrimp was 👌. If in brownsville you must visit very recommended!! Although maybe adding rice or other sides on menu would be excellent!
