We are "locals", and therefore have had the opportunity to eat at most of the seafood eateries from Southport to Surfside Beach. This is our new favorite place to eat. We had the Capt. John's platter, and as is typical of Calabash style cooking... there was enough for two more people! The flounder was light, flaky and delicious. The oysters, clam strips and shrimp were tender and lightly breaded. We will be coming back more often!
Where do I start? Was recommended by a young lady at Wyndham Tower on the Groves. She said she used to work there. We reluctantly took her up on her referral but after eating at captain Nances I didn’t think it would be great. Not a fan of calabash style shrimp. Get there at 4:00 at opening and obviously seated immediately. Server immediately takes drink order and brings hush puppies. She recommended the pan fried shrimp. All 3 of us got them along with FF and Cole slaw. Cole slaw was delicious which is iffy in restaurants but one bite of the pan fried shrimp and it was easy to see why it was recommended. Huge portions! We took half back with us. I would have to say best Shrimp in the area. We will be back.
Captain John's Seafood House was a pleasant experience. I had 2 lb of Alaskan snow crab legs, french fries, clam chowder and house salad. Our server was great and she immediately got our drink orders. Two baskets of hush puppies came with the drinks and they were delicious. Shortly after we got our salads and the lettuce was good quality which is something I always check. The entrees came out with all the side items. The server constantly checked to make sure our drinks were filled and brought more hush puppies when asked.
My only complaint was that my Alaskan snow crab legs were a bit under heated something I also always check for. I sent the snow crabs back and the server was more than happy to accommodate me.
I also discovered that is quite difficult to consume two whole pounds of Alaskan snow crab legs after the hush puppies, salad, and french fries, but that's just me.
A great experience and I can't wait to go back.
Pam was amazing! She was very attentive to us and a pleasure to have as our server. The food was phenomenal and the portions were huge...lots of parking and the whole staff was friendly and kind. Will definitely be going back there! Highly recommended...

Great view, sweet waitress and good food. The crab cakes were awesome. The key lime pie was the only disappointment.
Good food, a ton of peel n eat Shrimp. Hush Puppies were good. Coleslaw was a bit dry and not cold enough. The kids pulled pork sandwich was good.
The fried food came out hot and delicious! However, anything grilled or broiled was warm, at best. Nice view.
We ran across this place while vacationing in Sunset Beach. They were decently busy but we were seated right away. Every staff member I dealt with had a mask on, and all the tables were spread apart appropriately. The hush puppies and honey butter were really good, my wife had the fried crab cakes which she loved, especially the sauce they came with. Our daughter had grilled cheese and fries, she liked it so that's always a win. I had a steak which was marked in the menu as market price, but given it was 12 oz I figured it wouldn't be too crazy. The steak itself tasted really good and was cooked correctly, but when i got the bill I was a bit shocked to be honest. $29 for a 12 oz steak is a bit much in my opinion, so be careful with the items on their menu that are listed as market price. Overall we enjoyed our meal, our server was very nice and attentive but seemed flustered at times. If we are ever in that area again I wouldn't hesitate to eat there again.
Fantastic dinner. Sat our large party promptly. Drinks and food came quickly. They’re hurting for servers (who isn’t) but handled us wonderfully. Good was great. Everyone in our group enjoyed their entrees. I can only speak for mine but the pan fired shrimp was excellent!! We will return for sure!
What an amazing place. The food was delicious. Best hush puppies ever. But I have to tell you about the staff. Like almost every place these days, they were short handed. But let me tell you. They did an awesome job keeping up. Our server, Kathy was the best. Definitely a place to go again.
