Katsu Restaurant Castro Valley

Good food and good service. They are a little on the pricey side as far as Castro Valley goes, but their portions and good quality make it easily worth it. Their udon is delicious in particular. The place is modest, but comfortable and clean. The staff is prompt and friendly, and there is pretty much always a table available. Definitely a quiet atmosphere good for families and couples and such, but not rowdy groups.

First timer here for dinner, although I've been living in CV for almost 20-yrs. Been to I-Sushi and Kyoemi. No frills hole in the wall in the Luckys mall area, next to Genghix. Food was excellent (especially Spider roll/soft-shell crab). Had a few pieces of sashimi (although I could not pick what I wanted), six to be exact (all ahi tuna/maguro). Most sushi houses will accommodate more than one selection of sashimi - not this one, so I marked off for this. Chicken terryaki was good. You even get a dessert, when you order the combo. Service was good. Special kudos to whomever made the iced-tea. It was fresh and not from the soft-drink spigot. One of the best iced-teas I have ever had. Pricing is acceptable (about right where it should be). What I did not like (marked off for this too), it was warm this day and they weren't running the A/C. Which made it warm in the restaurant, almost uncomfortable. When I asked about it, waitress said they usually don't run it on most days (really?). It affected my comfort level, for sure. Overall, excellent food/good prices/good service. But know this is a very laid back atmosphere (no dress up here). Shorts and tank tops OK. Alcohol is expensive but it is most places. It does have a sushi bar but you have to spend at least $10 there (?). Strange requirement.
