Friendly staff. Te steamboat is a great sandwich! Very good bread and fresh veggies. Never had to wait longer then 5 minutes to get my order.
Good little sandwich shop on the corner across from the Read House. This is my regular spot for a lunch time sandwich. The owners are super nice and the food never disappoints. My favorites include the signature steam boat sandwich for a spicy kick or the egg salad sandwich. They come in 2 sizes - regular and super. The regular is filling and the super is enough for 2 people. I also enjoy their orange tea.
I post reviews from time to time, usually with a humorous slant to them. But seriously, I really like this place. I can't explain why, but to me it feels like I'm sitting on the set of a Seinfeld episode when I'm here. I mean that as a high compliment. The sandwiches are not super complex or unique, just good, fresh, quality food. It is a frequent lunch spot for me and place I truly enjoy taking friends.
The sandwiches are not big, but the bread, meats, cheeses, and tomatos are excellent. If you judge by size, the price is high. If you judge by taste, the price is ok. They do have different specials on different days, but I don't know the schedule and they don't have a website. The sandwich makers are fast. I haven't tried the side items or salads. We always get sandwiches and chips.
Some reviews mention prepackaged food and reheated food. I have not noticed that.
I have noticed that the cashier doesn't handle the food.
It is on the east side of Broad St. From the corner at 8th St, it is the last in the row of small shops. It is near the middle of the block.
I love this place for a quick cheap takeout sandwich. Their bread is DELICIOUS!!! I usually get their egg salad or pimento cheese. Both are amazing. My only complaint is the guy who runs the cash register is quite unfriendly.

The bread is baked in store fresh daily. It’s soft, sweet, and delicious. It’s the right amount of bread to filling ratio too.
The deli meat is tasty & fresh. The veggies are crisp. You can taste the meats, cheeses, & all the fixin’s with every bite.
Steamboat is one of the city's best kept secrets, but it's time to blow the whistle. This is a great place to grab a unique, delicious sandwich for a super low price right in the heart of downtown. Sandwich making truly is an art, which makes Steamboat the Louvre.
