I have always heard mixed things about European based food. The typical response is that it's usually pretty awful. German and British food especially. Well, I love German heritage, I love German everything, and that doesn't deter me from itching to try a mostly German based European restaurant. Most of the other reviews seem to be un-enthused but my first time having been there, I must say it was absolutely fantastic.
The server was a bit awkward and seemed to be getting the hang of using an ipad for putting in our order or something but she brought waters out to us first thing, it was quite interesting as I've never seen wait staff bring starting drinks immediately to your table. It was a welcome surprise and it started us off on a good foot. She promptly asked if there was any additional drinks we were interested in other than water, but I was more than satisfied with that.
She talked us through some of the more popular choices on the menu and we chose what sounded good. Everything is made to order from scratch so we assumed our order would be 10 or 15 minutes, but to our surprise it arrived at the table within like 7 minutes. I ordered Sauerbraten and my partner ordered I believe it was Hungarian Schnitzel. Both were absolutely divine. I loved it all, and I will be looking forward to returning to try some other stuff on their menu.
Every food establishment has their bad days. Don't be ridiculous and boycott a place for a single experience you had, this place has high quality tasty food and we had great service. Please go try them out and make up your own mind.
I have been here over 10 times. The service, food is the best and very reasonable prices. Excellent beer. This place is the best --wow
For all its German heritage, you'd think Cincinnati would still be teeming with restaurants from the "mother country." But there's a lot going against German cuisine in this health-conscious day and age: it's got a reputation for being heavy, meaty and gushing with sauerkraut. Sure, we have our Mecklenburg Gardens, and our Hofbräuhaus, Bauer and Wunderbar(!). But I'd wager most Cincinnatians these days are more often inclined to hit up something lighter and more contemporary.
Some of the best German food in Cincinnati. Hungarian goulash and schnitzel are awesome! The Cabbage roll is one of the best I've had. Love the new location too!! Can't wait to come back!
The food was amazing! Only issue was the acoustics in the inside dining area. We could barely hear each other talk! Maybe they need to add some curtains, or something, to muffle the noise.
DrC. My wife had a really good stuffed cabbage dinner. The bread and salads were also good. I had the breaded pork chop, but would rather have ordered the cabbage or sauerbratten. The new location is small but actually less noisy than the old site. Service was friendly and fairly quick-but, call ahead for a reservation, as we dropped in and had to wait about 25 min. to get a table and the waiting area is sparse and chilly. The dinners remain pricey but worth it.
Yum, this place never disappoints. Lazlo's is this fabulous, out-of-the way gem, that service is always friendly. Sometimes they are busy, sometimes there's just a light buzz of a few tables, but it's always good. They change the menu frequently enough to keep things interesting, but ALWAYS have the basic Eastern-European fare that they're known for. BUT DON'T WORRY...If schnitzel with spaetzle isn't your thing....there's a fabulous selection of excellent continental fare. ENJOY...oh, and the prices are great for the food quality.
Treasure worth finding. Newtown is a bit out of the way for many, but it's worth the trip to Iron Skillet. Expertly prepared Central European cuisine at bargain prices. The menu offers a suprisingly large number of choices for such a small place. The service can be inconsistent and forgetful, but usually is very homey and warm.
Hungarian Restaurant. Hungarian restaurant, that serves German and Viennese dishes also. This restaurant has the best wiener schnitzel bar none, prepared to perfection outside of Wien Austria.
The soups, hot slaw, goulash, cucumber salad and host of tasty foods are available, it is my favorite restaurant in the Cincinnati area.
I like it..... This is my mother's favorite restaurant, so I have found myself here through the years. It is a little out of the way to go there frequently. In my opinion, the food is good, service is excellent and prices are extremely reasonable ---- what I would describe as "home cooked European." I will be back... Mom wouldn't have it any other way....
Amazing cooking for years. Very nice family atmosphere.
Bradley and I were looking for a good lunch after church on Sunday... which proved harder than it sounds. Everything in Newtown, Mariemont and Anderson seemed to either be closed or a chain. After a desperate drive around the area, we saw an "OPEN FOR BRE
Hungarian beef goulash, Stuffed cabbage, Chicken schnitzel.
Excellent food and amazing atmosphere. The flavors of the dishes Reminds me of homemade and non-commercial dishes. I will be back
So glad I found this place! I was craving a cabbage roll & theirs didn't disappoint! All of our meals & sides were delicious. The service was also on-point, thanks Bailey!
Wow! Run don't walk to this place. You are in for a real treat. The atmosphere was grand. The service is superb. The food is outstanding. I think you will enjoy your time as much as I did.
If I could give this restaurant a sixth star in every category I would do so.
I consider myself a foodie. I am not a professional food or restaurant critic. If I were to play the role of critic trying to find something wrong with my experience. I would fail in every which way.
The staff was amazing. Very accommodating to us. We brought my father who was in a wheelchair. The food timing service staff, drinks, appetizers, cleanliness of the restaurant. Everything was on point.
I will be returning the next time I'm in the area. Huge thanks to the staff at the Iron Skillet for helping us build good memories on that Father's Day.
The food was Wonderful! We sat outside on the patio which was most enjoyable. The 45 minute wait time for food seemed a bit long since we arrived at the 4 pm opening and were the 2nd customers to arrive. I had grilled mixed vegetables with a chicken breast added, and my husband had the evening special of pork tenderloin with potato & corn hash. The flavor 😋 was quit good and the food was hot, but it just seemed like a long wait.
Was there with a large party of 30+, so had the upstairs to ourselves which was a huge plus. Everyone was very pleased with their menu selections. Our family member from Germany tried several menu items and said everything was delicious. She said they were going to have to drive over from the west side once a month because she wants to try everything on the menu. Our servers, Stephanie and Bailey were so friendly and organized. We ordered off the full menu vs. a limited menu and every order and check were accurate, which had to be a challenge since we were in and out of our seats mingling. Great job ladies, and Laszlos!!
We were sitting in a booth and it was really nice. We had the Brussels and Bacon appetizers and it was incredible. I ordered the Paprika Chicken so tasty and great noodles. Make sure you ask about all the homemade desserts!
Very good, Beth had the cabbage roll :) everything was fire
As I walked in the front door, it smelled like my grandma's kitchen! Love it 💕. Food is delicious, service outstanding.
Spent mother's 88th bday here! Orders for saurbraten, skillet veggies with chicken, weiner schnitzel, and meatloaf skillet were placed. Food arrived hot and timely. Everyone loved their meal except the meatloaf skillet is not recommended. A casual, homey feeling place to dine. Atmosphere was very pleasant until a loud group of young ladies came in. Not blaming the restaurant for their inconsiderate behavior. Service was good, but Jennifer was a bit curt with us. She was a bit rude; walked away twice while taking our orders without saying anything. An "excuse me just a moment" or "I'm sorry, I need to attend to something" would have been appropriate, but she just walked away. Service could have been much better. There is a nice beer garden to enjoy, also. All in all, had a wonderful meal and time at Laszlo's. Highly recommend dining here.
