The roasted duck was heavenly. Its so flavorful and the best i have had. The dimsum was also great tasting specially the stuffed eggplant. Everything we ordered was filled with flavor but not too salty and overpowering since most chinese restaurants we've had it's either too salty or oily. The only thing is that they only had 2 staff members to do everything at front. Overall great food. Definitely a must stop if you are visiting.
Go for the dim sum but return again and again for the Tawaianese beef noodle.
Seriousaly though this is the closest to authentic dim sum you are going to get in Cincinnati.
Top 50 dim sum restaurant for dim sum on Yelp! The homemade hot chili oil sauce is incredible.
Best Dim Sum I have ever had. We have been searching for good Dim Sum for months. This is the 5th restaurant we tried in Columbus & Cincy. I am Asian, used to live in NYC, so I know good Dim Sum. All food was fresh, authentic, so flavorful. Seafood was very fresh, done just right. They do not use too much fillers like other places. Plan to go every week, even though we live in Dayton, Definately worth the drive.
I can't believe we've lived near this place for 15 years and never tried it until now. It's the best Chinese I've ever had. We had a seafood combo lo mein for the husband (and got him sweet and sour chicken in case that proved too adventurous). He wolfed them both down (over a couple of days), even when faced with the unknowns of octopus and squid in the lo mein! I got a couple of the dim sum /appetizers, the shrimp wrapped in tofu (such fresh shrimp) and the five spice beef (great flavor and nice presentation) and a ha moon mai fun, a favorite of mine that's simple but often sucks at other places. This one was really tasty, I think because they didn't seem to consider the noodles to be an afterthought. I see no point in ever going to another Chinese restaurant. They have endless dishes to try including a Chinese menu, and the freshest shrimps in town.
When u enter the restaurant you get the feel of chinatown. Loved the dimsums, especially spare ribs. Steamed free range chicken was excellent. Its among one of the very few economical good tasting food restaurants. Authentic chinese taste.
This is a long time standing Cincinnati establishment I wasn't aware. Very long extensive, authentic menu. You may experience some language barriers but that has nothing to do with the taste of your food! Hats off!
Uncle Yip is the more casual dim sum option in Cincinnati. They had a change of ownership in the last year, and the transition might have affected service a bit, but the food is reliably standard fare. We ordered a combination of dim sum dishes and book choi main dish for sharing. A good time was had by all.
Delicious food and amazing time!. One of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've had in recent memory. The staff were amazingly sweet and attentive. We went at an odd time and were one of the few people in the place. The owner (who apparently just took over) told us her story from China to the US and let us in a little on the history of the food from her region and what is served at the restaurant, much of which isn't your standard Americanized Chinese food. We decided to go with several different dim dum options, which are very reasonably priced at $3.50 for most plates. The food was very very unique, yet the flavors were approachable and not overwhelming or too spicy. I have found one of my new favorite foods, the egg custard bun. It was amazing, but definitely a sweet dessert. We ordered more than we needed and had an entire meal to take home. With two alcoholic beverages, we were still under $50 including tax and tip. If you're looking for a different spin than what you'd normally get from a Chinese place, this is it. Highly recommend.
Outstanding!. I eat there all the time for lunch. Great tasting food, cheap prices, friendly staff. A+A+A+
A unique place. Definitely NOT your typical American-Chinese restaurant. Uncle Yip's is an experience. From the quirky service, to the extensive menu that is full of special Chinese dishes plus standard American Chinese dishes, to the fresh seafood and great value for the money, this is a hidden gem of Cincinnati. We went for dinner last night and as we don't speak Chinese, we were in the minority of clientele. I have to admit that the food was not my favorite Chinese in town, but the Fish was incredible and overall we felt it was a good value. The ambiance is neat, nothing fancy but has a feel of something you would find in a Chinatown not Cincinnati. Next time we look forward to being more adventurous and trying some of their Dim Sum dishes which are available all day everyday.
Special Tip 1: 10% discount if you pay in cash for checks over $25
Special Tip 2: This is a cultural experience and the service/food is not blazing fast - so plan to sit back and relax
Wonderful Dim Sum and Authentic Dishes. My family has been going to Uncle Yip's for years. We love the dim sum and judging by how full the tables get on the weekends, others are huge fans of their dim sum too.
We got a lot of different dishes from the dim sum menu, all delicious! My favorite item was the rock salt tofu from the appetizers. It was perfectly crispy and salty! Don't skip the sesame balls for dessert! So crispy and light and not too sweet - perfect! And all the wait staff was friendly and nice. Food came out piping hot! Can't wait to go back!
Another favorite I visited while in town. We went for lunch on Black Friday, so they were pretty empty and didnt have the dim sum carts going around. We still ordered 9 items off the dim sum menu and most of it was great. Our bean curd rolls were a bit too crispy and sticky rice was slightly overcooked, but I'm sure it was hard for the chef to manage making an order of so many small dishes all at once.
We were visiting specifically to show my partner more "authentic" Chinese restaurants in Cincy, and she was very pleasantly surprised after being concerned that she wouldn't be able to find good dim sum in the city. Her favorites were the sui mai and beef short rib. We will definitely be returning to this family-run business!
Uncle Yip’s has been in business for decades, although not in this same location. I first discovered this restaurant when they were located in Middletown, Ohio in a rundown strip center. As bad as it looked from the outside, the food was really great on the inside.
This is a Chinese restaurant that serves real Chinese favorites if you are looking for the real thing. Yes, they have all the usual entrees, too, if you’re not into exploring. Regardless of what you order, it’s fresh and delicious.
The restaurant is not fancy, but it’s friendly and inviting.
A patient who is chinese bought lunch that was shared with the whole office, then food was great, servings were huge. I have 2 friends that I wanted to share this restaurant with, they loved it a well!!
Great food, great prices, great service in a very clean restaurant. My husband got Dan Dan noodles which was fresh and fantastic! I got chicken pad Thai. I was worried it would be too sweet but it was made just right. Also got pot stickers which were yummy. We visited on a Monday night around 6pm and the place was almost empty. No line to fight nor much wait for our food. Definitely recommend and will return.
I finally found one of the best Chinese restaurants. The food were very tasty. We had rock salt pork chop, roast pig Chinatown style, lo mein, young chow fried rice, house sui mai, and spare ribs with black bean sauce. Everything were perfectly seasoned. Definitely recommend Uncle Yip’s!
Great food.
However they automatically charged us 18% of the total bill (after tax) for tips before we were able to see the bill (we are table of five).
Update: 3/4/23
Busy Saturday night, but they were still quick and very helpful. The food was hot and fresh made. Beef chow fun, and Beef Mongolian are must try dish.
Original:
The service was quick. We had dimsum - they were very tasty, and price is under $5 per bowl/plate.
Great choice for dim sum and Chinese food in the area! Conveniently located right next to cam international market. Hadn’t been here in years but was glad to revisit Uncle Yip’s. Spacious and clean interior with friendly service. Food comes quickly. Everything we tried was very tasty, from the vegetables to the meat dishes. Their lobster is well cooked and flavored, as well as their signature fish dish. Chicken feet is good too if you’re feeling bold as a non-Asian. Can’t really go wrong with the menu.
Authentic Asian dishes that come out wicked fast and steaming hot! Love the vibe and the turning lazy Susan tables are super fun with a big group for dinner! The staff was very friendly and quick to fill up waters meet any needs. Best Asian food experience in Cinci!
