Montgomery Ice Cream Tour: Steak 'n Shake...
Montgomery may well be the ice cream center of the local universe, with frozen specialty shops spanning the length of Montgomery Road, Montgomery’s main drag. Proceeding north from Scrumbles Cafe, after Walker Brothers Ice Cream comes Steak 'n Shake. They have all kinds of milkshake and they’re not only hand-dipped and delicious, but they’re also the best bargain in town at half-price during their twice-daily happy hours.
One of the better chains, IMHO
The burgers are pretty good, especially when eaten within a minute of leaving the flat top grill, but recently, I have found they do a fairly good job with --- breakfast? Yes, breakfast
I suspect the biscuits are not made in house, but they are nonetheless pretty good, especially when topped with their good sausage gravy.
This experience is improved further with the addition of a over light fried egg on top. Not very photogenic, but delicious
Best breakfast bargain in town.
Depends on the day you go, or the time of day. Sometimes you have a great experience, and others it's a nightmare.
Sometimes the food takes forever, other times it's quick. Sometimes you don't get your drinks until the bring your food. Sometimes the waiter or waitress comes 2 times to your table. Once to bring food and drinks and another to bring the check.... Sometimes you get great portions of fries, or sometimes you get the diet version...
And other times it has been fantastic. It's like playing roulette. If you like that. This is your place....
This is a typical steak n shake. Nothing fantastic but no issues while we were there. Our server was by herself and kept apologizing for taking too long, but she really didn't take long and was great. The food was fine. It wasn't busy so that worked out well for us!
My uncle got the chili and said it wasn't very good. My cousin and dad both had hot dogs, and said they were delicious, even though my dad had more dog than bun. My other uncle and I both got burgers, and they were delicious. They skimped on the bacon on my burger a bit, but after rearranging it it was fine. The milkshake I got was hard to drink at first, so I let it melt a bit and it was delicious. Overall, a wonderful experience.
Ok, I will admit that I usually eat at Steak 'n Shake WAY more than I should. This location usually has pretty poor service, comically bad actually. Guess that is why I keep going back...for the laughs. Anyhow, we went today and it was the best Steak 'n Shake food that we've ever had!
Drive through was fairly quick. Foot was hot, fresh and delivered courteously. They added garlic spread to my burger with no fuss or extra charges. Top marks, thumbs high 👍
