Good place to go for late night dining and when looking for a place to gather with friends who range from carnivores to vegan. The outdoor patio is nice if you’re not downwind from smokers.
Met up with friends in Columbus while attending an event that The Ohio State University held for band students. We decided to grab a quick bite at Tip Top before the performance. I tried the pot roast sandwich with regular fries, my colleagues tried the same sandwich with sweet potato fries. Everyone enjoyed the food. I thought the pot roast was good, but for me a bit dry. I needed to add the dipping sauce that was supposed to be for the sweet potato fries to the sandwich. When I did that - it was really good. The bar had the feeling of pubs that I visited in Boston. Very comfortable and friendly staff. They also serve drafts PBR for $2 and RC cola! Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.
I would highly recommend Tip Top. The menu is extensive and delicious. Plus they have a great beer and overall bar menu to compliment. This is a must stop place when in the horrible town that hosts the suckeyes.
Ate here on Sunday. The waiter was very good at handling a mixed group of adults and kids. The corn chowder was very good. The sandwiches were large and flavorful. Will return the next time we are Columbus.
I've lived in Columbus for my whole life and it doesn't get better than Tip Top. Everything I try is excellent (especially the sweet potato fries).
The outdoor patio is nice when you can find a table and they usually have good beers on tap. I love taking people here for the first time!
Great food & atmosphere. Found this place with a friend while looking for nearby places to eat that were open late. The food was great, the servers were friendly, and I loved the décor. I had the Mac and Cheese and my friend has the Monte Cristo - both were fantastic! I would totally recommend this place and will be back the next time I'm in town .
Exceeded Expectations. I went in with high expectations and they were met and exceeded. Service was quick, helpful and attentive. My wife and I ordered the corn fritters to start. They arrived a short few minutes later, fried to a nice golden brown. They were excellent, sweet and salty with a little bit of a spicy kick at the end. This was a starter you won't find in a chain restaurant and it was executed very well. For entrees I had the highly recommended pot roast sandwich, my wife had a veggie wrap. The pot roast sandwich was a heap of nicely seasoned and melt in your mouth soft beef on a nice pretzel bun. It was served with a slice of swiss cheese which I scraped off as I am not a fan. The pot roast was nice and juicy but the sandwich was a touch dry in places. Admittedly the swiss cheese I scraped off might have helped, but I think a little horseradish sauce or a side of jus might benefit the sandwich. Despite this the sandwich was excellent and came with some merely ok chips on the side that badly needed salt. My wife's veggie wrap looked great, and she was a big fan. It was served warm, something most places don't bother doing with veggie wraps, and stuffed with a nice variety of veggies. It was almost more of a veggie burrito, but that's an observation not a complaint. It was served with the same merely ok chips on the side. We will definitely be going back in the future.
The soup is phenom. This is my comfort food spot. There's good beer and the Mac n cheese, pot roast sandwich, grilled cheese, and fried green beans are my go to. Beer selection is always outstanding. Hipster staff is attentive and knowledgeable but this isn't the place for you if you need the service to kiss your ass.
All Good Things. A combination dive bar comfort food restaurant with a great selection of brown liquor and the option for sweet potato fries or fried green beans for your sandwich side? Okay, I'll go there at least once every trip I make to Columbus.
The pot roast (entree w/ a slice of molasses/pumpernickel bread or sandwich on a pretzel roll) is killer. Sandwiches from a veggie muffaletta w/ portobello and sprouts to a chicken salad with honey and shallots are all over the taste-bud-satisfying-board. Sides and sauces are great as sides and sauces or snacks on their own. The veggie corn chowder is solid every day and the du jour in a bowl has been a rotating bit of "get that, you'll like it" too.
Amazingly friendly staff all seem to like it that customers like their spot.
This is the restaurant of choice for my boyfriend and I. We *always* order the corn fritters, the green bean fries with Bloody Mary dipping sauce, ranch + a side of spicy mayo, and a steaming bowl of the vegetarian corn chowder. All are phenomenal. The wait staff is top-notch and very attentive. We love this place.
Fun little place to go for a late night bite. Waiter was friendly and service was good, especially as he seemed to be the only server and was also running the bar. Food quality was mixed: My partner got pot roast sandwich and he liked it. Daughter got a hamburger which was delicious, but the side portions are small. I got the Tip Top salad and was underwhelmed. Would not order it again.
I dropped in for lunch on a Saturday with other local establishments closed. Service at the bar from Jenna was spot on. I enjoyed the open face roast beef, served on garlic toast with mashed potatoes and onions. Great comfort food and quite filling.
We arrived at 11:00pm after a long flight from California and it was one of the few places we found open and that we felt relatively safe going in, there was several customers even at that time, 1 person working behind the counter and he did well taking care of everyone, he was friendly and attentive, I ordered the fish and chips which was decent, the decor and ambient is nice and inviting.
I started with the corn chowder which, for me, was a tad spicy, but I like things really spicy. A corn chowder was very well dressed, meaning they top it with things such as green onions, some crispy things, some cheese. So my mouth exploded with tasty goodness and fabulous textures. Wow! This was amazing.
I followed this up with beef stroganoff. I think this might be the best beef stroganoff I've ever had in a restaurant. There was some sour cream on the side to mix in, which is something I really like. They had topped it with fork tender roast beef. They reduced the sauce with wine of and I could very mildly taste the residual of that, which is not my favorite, which means I don't do it when I make it myself. That said, I would absolutely order this again and strongly recommend it.
Surprisingly, this is an RC shop, that means I got RC cola as opposed to cope with Pepsi. So two thumbs up there.
I asked about gluten free things and they have gluten-free bread so they can make most of their sandwiches gluten free. They also have gluten-free entrees.
My server was Matthew and he took a lot of time to explain the menu items to me. I would surely ask for him again.
At this time, 3/25/2023, they don't have desserts because they're dessert. Maker retired, but expect them soon.
So don't miss this place. It's worth a stop. Give it a try.
Enjoyed an overall great meal here. The dirty martini was stellar. I had the chicken fried chicken and my husband had the pot roast. Food was delicious though my mashed potatoes and gravy were cold. He said the pot roast was tasty but slightly bland. Upon arriving, there was no hostess so we had to find someone to inquire about a table. We were seated quickly despite how busy it was. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. We would definitely come again! I think it's a hidden gem in Columbus.
Great food. Great service. Best sweet potato fries I've ever had. Have been here 5 times and the food has been consistent.
Very good, simple food. Well priced. Staff is attentive but not at all pushy. Take your time to talk, est, and visit!
A nice unassuming bar/restaurant in downtown Columbus. They're open until 11pm weeknights and make for a great late meal. There are lots of sandwiches on the menu, a few salads and appetizers. The food came out fairly quickly. The staff was kind and accommodating. There are plenty of metered parking spaces. They do have a happy hour, 3-6, weekdays with nice specials on drinks. The televisions are in good view from most seats for game watching. The cost is relative to portions and the food tasted great. Good for a quick bite or sitting around for a while. Great for friends, a seasoned couple or solo.
Nice bar and kitchen. We got their pot roast entry, and it was definitely enough for a lunch for two. It was also happy hours, so that any Ohio beer was half the price. Good place
I love a dive bar. I love a bartender that’s friendly and enjoys chatting.
I found both at Tip Top. Reasonably priced food and drinks, and a great “sit and have a few with your friends, even if your actual friends aren’t there” atmosphere.
I’ll definitely come back on my next trip to Columbus!
