Was no wait time. We were seated right away. Salsa was great, had just enough kick with a great Mexican flavor. Ordered the cheese dip app, it was very good. I had the combo flamado plate. It had a very good flavor with the perfect amount of seasons, chicken, beef, onions and peppers. Rice was so so as were the beans. Overall very good place to eat and we'll for sure return.
Excellent food and service! Rarely have we been in and had to wait to be seated, staff is always courteous and attentive. Food is always hot and fresh. One of our favorites spots for mexican food.
Excellent service! I ordered the Chicken Fajita Burrito. There was plenty of grilled chicken pieces in the burrito and cheese sauce on top. The lunch portion was perfect. It came with rice and beans. Loved it! Prices are good as well.
Bad location, decent stuff.. Mostly average, but on the fence, the friendly service can make me return. The location? ....umm.... OK, any illusion of elegance fails when you realize you're eating next to a run-down thrift and drug store....but let's try to forget that for now.
My chips were sprinkled with (mostly) chilli powder, which I was neither tickled about, nor did it make me fall into despair. I did request that they please not put lime on anything, just because I'm tired of everyone always feeling the need to put lime on Tex-Mex. I did also notice there seemed to be very few beans in the beans? It was more like a gooey mass of bean mash. The rice was also ever-so-slightly hard & dry, like it had been put on the fast-track to being heated.
What I had was a chimichanga, and I can say that the main part of the dinner was the best part, but still a slight step down from Villa Grande or El Guapo's, as it was not quite as tasty, plentiful, or well put together.
The service felt authentic to type, and the wait people struck a balanced attentiveness that jived well with me. The back-up server was exceptionally friendly; she smiled a lot and was fun to chat with.
One small thing: It seems just a little stingy for them to tell you you can't take home the left-over chips.........
Great Tex-Mex. I have been going here for years. Why? Because it is wonderful. Where to start the service is on point! Always refilling drinks, chips, salsa, and making sure your food is how it should be to your liking. Shout out to Hugo, the best server at El Matador's. I always get the same handful of items every time, because they are just too good. I get the Combination number 2- Cheese Enchilada, Chicken Enchilada, and Beef Enchilada. (the best Chicken enchiladas I have ever had anywhere). I also get a tamale on the side with queso....... yummy. The Fajitas are simply amazing, not over cooked, juicy, and flavorful. The Shrimp Quesadilla's are pretty freakin awesome and the bean and cheese nachos are a wonderful appetizer. There salsa is always on point some days a little hotter than others, but I am happy that at least some place serves HOT salsa. The charro beans are super awesome too. I never have to wait and once at the table the service is so quick, wait maybe 10 minutes for food to come after ordering. I love this place oh and its cheap and a lot of food
First time coming in, and had the Green Chicken Enchiladas at the lunch price. Also had a Tall Watermelon *Exotic* Margarita that seemed a little strong, but still nice and refreshing. I'm normally very picky about my red salsas, but this one is yummy. Just wish they also offered a green-type sauce (I love me some green sauce!). All seems good so far, and I will be enjoying some of it later via to-go box as well!
Good Mexican Food. The wife's favorite Mexican place in the area. She brings home take out at least once a month. It is good as far as I am concerned too. But I have not tried much of their menu. I would recommend this place to any one wanting a Mexican fix in Denton. More Mex than Tex-Mex (this is a good thing).
Great food! The restaurant is deceiving from the outside but has a nice atmosphere inside, wonderful food, and attentive staff. Prices are pretty decent, too! I would definently recommend this restaurant.
Delicious!. I am really surprised that El Matador only got a 79% - it is our favorite local Mexican food restaurant! Yes, it isn't especially authentic but please direct me to an authentic tasting Mexican food restaurant in Texas because I have yet to find one. If I had to choose between On The Border and here, El Matador would win every time.
The salsa is delicious, the food is consistently good, and the service is the best I've ever seen. Our drinks never get below half full and we get the food within 5-10 minutes of ordering without fail. Plus their prices are pretty reasonable, especially lunch.
I love their chimichungas because it is stuffed with meat, not beans and cheese. My hubby loves their chile relleno and cheese enchiladas.
Love this place! Chips and salsa are great. Everything we've tried was good. Service has always been very good too! Best margaritas!
Yummy!. Great resturant, great prices, super fast service, reallllly great food!
Good food, good price. Nothing real special, just good TexMex food at a reasonable price.
Wow luv this place. The atmosphere is super up beat. The service on point. Food wow wee all the flavors. The cheese sauces just melting all over rice or beans. Tacos always have that great crunch. Did I mention the brisket chimchinga!! So good.. ty El Matador.
El Matador was great! We tried it for the first time after El Fenix closed and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious and came out super fast. We beat the dinner rush, but you can easily see that it's a fan favorite because by the time we were leaving the place was getting really crowded. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back!
Although we've never eaten here, we have it on good authority that the food is fantastic! Better than that, the mariachi band is the absolute best there is. We hired the band to play at a senior care center for our uncle's birthday. He had the BEST time as did the staff and other residents. Jason, THANK YOU 😊
New plant based menu (aka more veggies) with chicken.
Great food, prices, and atmosphere.
Average plate price is $10
This is a great Tex-Mex food place that I visit once in a while. You can't beat their fajitas and the service is incredible! I took a date and she commented on the fact that the waiter was so attentive to what we needed. The assortment of margarita options makes it fun to have a drink! Highly recommended!
Excellent flavor in all entrees. Our group of 14 was served quickly (but not rushed) and without a single mistake in all orders. Thank you to our waiter, Hugo. We will definitely be back. Prices were good 👍
Fantastic place! First time trying it out tonight. Great friendly staff. Nice environment for families. We had trio fajitas and the chimichanga. Meal was hot, fajitas were sizzling, great taste and well put together. The portions are huge! You definitely get what you pay for. Service was amazing. Corinth Angelina’s servers moved to this location! Let me tell you amazing decision, way to go guys! We missed y’all! This place was a hit! We will be back! Oh, margaritas are to die for.
We enjoyed our visit to El Matador. The food and service was excellent.
