I found this place on a whim while looking for breakfast with friends. I love supporting local restaurants, and this restaurant has been a local institution for 85 years. I gotta give it to our server Ashley who treated us like a friend. Even the manager and busboy came out to chat with us. That’s rare! Our meals were huge and we were stuffed like hotel pillows. Beautiful homey stone building. Parking is tricky but a visit here is well worth it. GREAT staff, GREAT atmosphere, and GREAT food.
This place been a go-to for homestyle cooking since I moved here back in '97. But, for reasons unknown, I've never tried the fried chicken...until today. I had the craving and the time (takes 20 minutes), and was worth every moment of the wait. The breast is always the telltale sign of good fried chicken. It's often dry and flavorless. Not THIS chicken. Every bite was tender, juicy and packed with flavor. The crust was perfectly crispy without so much as a hint of greasiness. I went for the 4-piece meal so I would have leftovers for later. Truly the best fried chicken in NKY, if not the world. You gotta eat here!
"Dinner out with friends" we like to try restaurants we haven't been to before so decided to give the Colonial Cottage a try, for a Saturday night there was no wait to be seated our server was friendly and cheerful a little slow giving service but we wasn't in a hurry so didn't mind the waiting, the food is home style comfort food so understand why the restaurant was mostly older customers. Don't let that determine going because the food was delicious the fried green beans were awesome, catfish and steak all good next time I want to try the chicken and see how good it is. Definitely a good dining experience.
My husband and I eat breakfast here frequently. So much so, that we have a favorite server, Michele. Service is great! They accommodate my keto diet - I sub toast with tomatoes & potatoes for cottage cheese.
Great food, great service. The hotcakes I ordered were delicious! Definitely recommend!
Nashville hot chicken was delish. Pies to die for. Nice homey atmosphere. 85 years and still serving.
An older restaurant that has been around for 85 + years that serves a variety of home cook meals they have daily specials although the parking lot is small there is plenty of room inside we had great service and great food definitely will go back again enjoy
