If you haven't tried Hickory BBQ recently, you need to check it out. New owners took over May 2016 and they have gotten off to a great start. We have been there several times and the food was great. Their catfish was outstanding. Had the Chicken, Shrimp, and Burger so far, and all were worth the trip. They have also hired a professional web designer to update their online image. Check it out at HickoryBBQPit.com. After scanning through their new website, it is obvious that they take the BBQ industry serious. After talking to the owners, Jim and Jeremy, I learned they are a father and son team with years of experience in the restaurant and BBQ business. They even took me on a tour of their kitchen where I got to see the "Pit", simply amazing. Hickory BBQ is going to be a regular feeding spot for my family. I think I feel like ribs next, they looked great cooking on their grill during my tour. Check it out for yourself and you will agree that Hickory BBQ is one of the best things to happen for Fort Myers. Good job Jim & Jeremy, keep up the Great Work!!!!!!
Hickory Bar-B-Q, Old McGregor Blvd, Fort Myers, Here is my 2 cents on the food and some chit chat.
The food... I got a rib platter with 2 sides. ( Just too much pork around here)
Hush Puppies..WOW these were very good.. The size of golf balls and full of flavor. Even cold they were good.
OMG the biscuit I loved. Plus they gave you REAL butter. Excellent touch!!
Now the cole slaw. Eh.. Creamy chopped fine needs a bit more taste...Not too sweet or sour. Needs work.
The RIBS.. Real ribs for real meateaters. NO phoo phoo baby backs. Good size very meaty. Almost fall off the bone(real carnivore want that tug). Season fine with just the right smoky taste. Not over powering.
Chi chat.. I hate vinegar base sauce. Even in my hot sauces NOPE... Tomato base sweet and spicy that's for me.
But I had their version of a sweet sauce. Not bad. Needs more sweetness ( brown sugar ,honey or molasses.) plus kick it up with some hot pepper.
My order was quickly delivered. Folks were great. I did not mind the 20+ minute commute for this from The Cape..
Over All very good.
Best ribs! Not some creepy meat drowned in sauce. Food is always great. I do enjoy the new sweet sauce as well as the traditional tangy one. I love the recent additions to the menu. Try the fried tenderloin sandwich! If you like BBQ beef give it a try, but it is a leaner more dry cut. I prefer the pork sandwich. Always a joy! Chicken is awesome. I suppose you could say I'm a huge fan!
Not as good as it was yrs ago. Good but just not as good as it was yrs ago. Loved the coleslaw!
This place is awesome. This is a Fort Myers staple that's been around since 1956. The prices are beyond reasonable, the portions are just fine (if you're really hungry or large, get dinners, not sandwiches), and the sauce is very unique. If you hate it, they will give you sweet sauce they store in the back, but I love it. It's all about the sauce. They DO take credit and debit cards now. Order a pork sandwich, tack on a few sides, and thank me later. Or get the ribs. There's a lot of meat on those ribs. Then finish up with homemade coconut cream pie. Or the key lime. Best key lime I've ever had.
Some of the best smoked ribs I have had. The menu is limited but somehow it adds to the feel of the establishment. Be sure to get the hush puppies/ cornbread things.
Heard about this place from a friend of my mom's. We had been there a few years ago. It was much better now. We had ribs, the pulled pork, brisket and the catfish. Everything was good and the coconut cream pie was great. Our waitress was very friendly.
Ordered take out dinner for visiting family and everyone liked it. The slaw was the best I've had in a while. My son loved the ribs. No missing or incorrect items. I appreciate that the hot and cold items were separated, and the chicken caesar salad came with dressing on the side and hot chicken separated. Someone behind the line knows their stuff. Will be back.
Nice thick slices of juicy brisket. Down side, it was only 2.5 slices of meat that didn't really fill the small bun. Tables are nicely spaced in one large dinning room. They place seemed clean and staff was friendly.
My father brings me and his friends up to the Hickory for lunch quite often. We've all been enjoying food here for many, many years! And I must say, it's always delicious! Great service, great food, great everything!
Reopened today! Under new management I hear and everybody is so nice and the food is the best! They have a new sweet sauce that is just so good! I wish they had one of these in Chattanooga, TN. It beats those BBQ joints hands down.
This is a very unique family resturant, hidden on old McGregor Blvd can sometimes be missed and driven by. Their prices are very reasonable with good portions. Delicious ribs, collard greens, and biscuits. Don't forget a cup of sweet tea.
When we first went there, I expected Baby Back Ribs, which I didn't get. What we got was even better! St. Louis style Ribs. Great flavor, the meat falls off the Ribs and the sauces - a real poem of taste. Very pleasant, nice service, spectacular side dishes and a really comfy atmosphere in general. Authentic, honest BBQ, which you nowadays with franchises everywhere rarely can find.
Furthermore a great price-performance ratio!
Und jetzt ganz knapp für die Deutschen:
Authentisches BBQ mit einem spektakulären Preis Leistungsverhältnis! Super Essen, netter Service! Nur zu empfehlen!!
Went there a year ago for the first time and since then return regularily. I cant share the opinion of many of these “they don’t do BBQ MY way, therefore it didn’t taste good” –sayers. It ist open-pit and tastes like open pit. You wouldn’t rate our donut one star because it didn’t taste like key lime pie would you?
Don’t expect anything fancy, it’s a good and honest place for good and honest food. Waiters are always welcoming and super friendly. Portions are more than satisfying. Nice selection of beers. What you can almost feel is the touch of homemade/handmade food. Especiall the pies are made fresh every morning. They even use their own beekeepers honey!
The meats are delicious, the st. lois ribs meaty and taty, always take the combo with brisket…the sauces are also very good, the house-sauce is indeed a bit vinegary and not my favorite (but m wifes) but hey that’s what the other available sauces are for if one doesn’t fit to my palate… of the sides I can recommend the coleslaw (not a creamy sugar pile like in many franchises) and of course the frsh baked biscuits.
Long story short. Always satisfied my cravings, go there, check it out!
If you dare to want good.... no great BBQ while in seafood florida, stop in here.... yes it is under new management AND GREAT BBQ does not have to be archival. Try their warm hot sauce.... and their sweet sauce.... really.... take some back to your Condo.... order their party plan.... and ENJOY GOOD SOUTHERN BBQ....oh yeah the coconut cream pie is to die for...
Amanda was our server and she was delightful. Attentative, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and did an awesome job.
We enjoyed Catfish, trio platter, sides galore and all at half price as it was their 'Thank you to the community' 50% off day.
Happy to pay full price for tasty bbq anytime from Hickory Bar-B-Q
