The food was fantastic and I’ve been there twice; both times were good. Green monster sushi was really good it has avocado and shrimp delicious and flavorful. Crispy spicy tuna was also pretty good but def not the best I’ve had. California roll is also very very good one of the best I’ve had. The pork bun was sooo good and I normally don’t eat pork but had to try it. 6 rolls and one appetizer came out to 89 dollars without tip.
The food here was decent. They were pretty empty at lunchtime on the weekday. The roast chicken was amazing but smaller portion size. It does take a while for the food to arrive. The wait staff is polite and helpful in choosing options.
This is the best sushi place around this location. The sushi quality is really great and the service is good too. We come here often for sushi, vegetable tempera, and sashimi. I tried the chicken bun sandwich, and it was OK. We normally stick to our usuals, but they do have other entres. I suggest this restaurant for good Japanese food.
Great food & service. Ingredients are fresh. This place became our favorite local sushi house. All staff are very attentive. It has a relaxing atmosphere as well. We love this place so much!
I was impressed with this suburban Gaithersburg sushi restaurant. The menu is inventive and they execute well on it. The truffle oil in the Black Magic roll was melded well into the flavor. The beet salad was a nice version of one of my favorite vegetables. Service was prompt and attentive. The manager stopped by to check on us as well.
Menu was hard for me to read so I just went with “the sushi” so I get whatever sushi and rolls they pick for me (7pc nigiri + spicy tuna maki). They were delicious. Each piece had a little extra that adds/enhances flavor to make them something beyond one’s expectation. It was interesting.
I think I ordered a Melonade for my drink, which was also great! I could be wrong but I don’t think I got $2 off from my drink during happy hour?
No separate kid’s menu but I ordered Cal rolls for my 2yo son as recommended. They kindly made the rolls small enough for my son but sadly my son loved only the miso soup. I didn’t mind as I can get to eat the leftovers lol. It may be the reason several people from the restaurant checked on us… I think?

Excellent service, supremely creative sushi and a comfortable atmosphere makes KENAKI a gem in the Kentlands.
Dined her for lunch with my father and they were very kind and accommodating to his needs, very much appreciated that.
As for what we enjoyed, we had 3 of their delicious special rolls:
BLACK MAGIC
FORBIDDEN RICE. SPICY TUNA, PICKLED JALAPENO. TRUFFLE OIL TEMPURA FLAKES. BLACK TOBIKO. AVOCADO. CRISPY LEEKS.
WHITE TIGER
SEARED SCALLOP. SALMON. EEL GRANNY SMITH APPLE. AVOCADO. PUFFED RICE. SWEET SHOYU. CHUNKY RAYU. "CONTAINS NUTS& SHELLFISH
OLD BAE
LUMP CRABMEAT. AVOCADO. SCALLION. OLD BAY CRISPY POTATO.
All were delicious, unique blends of flavors and textures.
My father also enjoyed a delicious mocktail with tropical flavors, can't recall the name sadly but I trust others are equally as good.
We got Kenaki for lunch! They had a lunch menu but we just went with stuff off of the regular menu. It wasn't too busy being a weekday, and they were really good about seating parties far apart. Service was really good, every time my water got a little low it got refilled, and when they forgot an ingredient in my friend's roll they grabbed her a new one right away.
The food was really good too! I got edamame and a spicy crunchy salmon roll. The rolls were huge and packed with crunch (though it could have been spicier!). The flavors were great and the fish was really fresh. The edamame was weirdly squishy? But still tasty. Prices were average, comparable to most other places I've been. I would definitely go back again soon to try more sushi!
UPDATE: I gave this place a try again. This time, I tried sashimi set. The fish was really fresh. They offered miso soup and rice too. Great for lunch! I didn’t like octopus tho
Good service, beets salad was also good, but sushi was mediocre, small and fish quality is just ok for the price, not that fresh, kinda slimy. Not worth it.
3 stars are for service and the salad.
Great food! I like the purple rice. It's called black magic roll and the shrimp tempura something. The sushi in the middle was still good but I liked it the least (White Dragon Roll)
