Bakeries are a weakness of mine. You could smell the wonderful aroma of freshly baked bread as you approached the store. We got there at 9 am and many of my favorites were almost sold out!
Cranberry scones to die for, wonderful baguettes and crusty little cobbles.
Heads up! The store front looks like a gift shop so you might walk right by. Just follow your nose.
Alexandra & John are the loveliest, sweetest people I have ever met. John’s breads are delicious & Alexandra’s baked goods are out of this world! I love their oatmeal cookies! They’re better than my own! lol!
I’ve lived on the north shore for over 15 years. Just moved to Gloucester before the pandemic and discovered this place. My absolute favorite bread bakery on the north shore. Everything we’ve had is delicious and a perfect texture. The owners are delightful and the little shop in the front is a perfectly curated mishmash of tea and vintage housewares and quilts and local art cards. Humble and humorous and high quality. Also very good prices compared to other hip artisan bakeries that have opened in recent years.
The cobbles are the best baked good I’ve ever had. It’s like 11pm and all I can think about is cobbles. Highly recommend.
I ordered mini cranberry scones for a bridal shower for my daughter in law to be'. They were wonderful as always and everyone remarked how delicious they were. Best scones you"ll find anywhere
A Gloucester Gem, family business.
The best cranberry scones, with stretchy pully-elasticy glutin, no dry crumbs here. I suggest if you want to go in for a handful, order ahead the day before. That way they will make whatever amount you request and save it aside for you to pick up the next day, AND make their regular amounts for walk-in customers. That way you walk away happy, and walk-in customers walk away happy because there was still product for them to buy.
An absolutely charming shop with wonderful smells as you walk in the door. The bread is made right in shop just behind the register.
Alexandra's Bread has some unreal bread, but make sure to get there early! It goes fast. (You can order in advance, if you don't want to take the chance that they're out of what you want!). The Olive loaf and the Cranberry scones are unreal. The Cranberry Scones are light and moist--different than a traditional dry scone, but they're just amazing. I saw that another reviewed said to buy extra and freeze them, I might have to try that next time! Great idea! And the olive load. Whoa. It's this gorgeous baguette, with kalamata olives dotting the top. They're generous with the olives, which makes these such an awesome indulgence. Every time I'm in the neighborhood I try to get some. The regular bread (cobbles, etc.) is great too, just don't miss out on those two items. The rest of the story is kitschy and cute. Lots of oil cloth and Cape Ann type stuff.
Get there early for great scones and baguettes. They only make a few items but all of them are delicious. Always a positive experience, owners are present and nice.
Local art and antiques fill the rest of the space. No seating, no beverages.
Great baked goods—scones and olive bread are fantastic— and great people running it. Get there early in the day.
Amazing bread! Must try the olive loaf, also the best cranberry scones I've ever eaten... Lovely unique finds in the shop area too!
