We’ve ordered from here three times now, and the food is centrally quite delicious. Like with any Chinese restaurant, some type of description would help for foods (e.g. the shredded garlic pork has some carrots but no other noticeable vegetables), but that’s only because there are so many variants on dishes. The hot and sour soup is lovely as is so much of the food here.
Be warned: the Hot Pepper Beef with Black Bean Sauce has a very good flavor…until it doesn’t. The punch of those full-seed Serrano peppers is overwhelming. This may be authentic, but the heat was sometimes breathtaking (coming from someone who quite likes spicy food) and the meat was scant. If you’re looking for your American version of a Chinese fix, this restaurant is the place for you, but this dish is not.
I ordered 30 minutes before I arrived and the food was ready when I got there. Had to drive another 30 minutes to get home before I could try it and everything was still hot. Also delicious. Definitely want to go back!
Went to try the new Gourmet China today. It's not the same menu as Captain Chen's but it's got some really good dishes. We tried three dishes - Sichuan diced chicken in spicy sauce, double cooked pork belly and Sichuan noodles. I was so happy that each dish was really good. And the food was actually spicy. I LOVE spicy food. Can't wait to go back and try more dishes. The young man that was our waiter did a good job asking if we needed anything and made sure we had refills on drinks.
