The place is certainly unlike any average Chinese buffet. The ambiance is incredible and peculiar, it seems as though it's not been redecorated since 1973 and it really affects the experience in a positive way. The food is fresh, quality and delicious. The buffet is a great deal. Highly recommend this place if you're in the mood for Chinese, but tired of the same cookie cutter places. This place is genuinely an experience.
Great, fresh Chinese food with a unique and refreshing atmosphere. I would definitely recommend to anyone who values diversity in their experiences with Chinese food and want something more than just food that tastes the exact same at every buffet.

1. I used to believe that the world's best menu was at the Four Seasons (south side of Indianapolis). Their old (original?) menu advertised “Pearls of the Sea. And Other Waters.” Sheer poetry. But, alas, they ditched the old menu and the new one is slick and new and generic. But, luckily, Lotus Garden (a Chinese restaurant which opened in 1963) still has at least one original page from their menu. The first page when you open it: titled “Tropical Refreshments.” I wasn't alive in 1963, but I'm pretty sure this menu page was. I've never seen anything like it: allow me to quote from the hymnal. “Dr. Wong's Tonic, $4.75, A delightful prescription of Rum, Orange Curaçao, passion fruit juice and fruit juice. Island natives believe this Tonic is sure to kill your worries and cure your ills.” “Tiki Bowl, for one or two, $7.25. You don't have to be a pagan to live like one! Cavorting cannibals get their cookouts rolling with this exotic brew, discovered centuries ago by the Island's Tiki Gods, a truly remarkable drink.” * The Scorpion (for two) is “a famous tropical drink” and the Navy Grog, festooned with an American flag and Kodachrome ice cubes is “Light separate ingredients** blended to make stout-hearted sailors out of the weakest men.”

Four generations!. I had dinner with my parents at the Lotus Garden. I have taken my own kids there all of their lives. Now, I take my grandkids! The Lotus has been there all this time for a reason, the food is great! Egg rolls and barbecued pork are house made and delicious! Best sweet and sour pork and chicken you've ever had. Not to mention, chow mein, lo mein, fried rice, moo goo gai pan, and Szechwan. Some things they have done the same way forever, the cracker and bun basket anyone? Many items on their American menu are not to be missed either. Best Manhattan's ever! Best cocktail? I say Rum Cow, but fabulous tropical drinks reign supreme here! Don't forget to say hey to Jimmy! He was the star of the show there in the 70s (still is ha!), when I was a little high school kid working in the "coffee shop", which is now the buffet next door. Hopefully the Lotus Garden will be serving great food for 50 more years! And, to the gentleman who has issues with the decor, the Chinese kitsch is part of it man!!!
A truly special restaurant.. My experiences at Lotus Garden have always been excellent. The food is superior. But its the lien table cloths and wait staff that make this place. And the decor is a blast from the past - in a good way. Its the only Chinese restaurant I go to that still puts rolls on the table.
As noted elsewhere, they need to clean the place up a little. The neon sign was only half working last time I was there. The exterior of the building could stand a coat of paint. But I hope they keep the interior as it is. Its beautiful.
I just wish it was closer to Fishers. While our local King Chef is outstanding. They just don't have the feeling of walking into Lotus Garden.
You are here for the food and service. You'll need to get past the decor to truly appreciate this place... it is 1968/1972 all over again and the Koi pond, though a potentially nice touch, could sure use updating. But, you are here for the food and the service! And the food and service is wonderful!
The Lotus Fried Rice is wonderful, so is General Tso and his chicken. The Egg Drop Soup is the best I have ever had.
This is fantastic Chinese/american food, done right. And top notch service. Enjoy the food and the service and keep coming back... just ignore the decor. :-)
Decenct Chinese Food. Decent food, a lot better than any buffet. I have been eating here for over 20 years and it has had its ups and downs. They do however have the best eggrolls around, and their crab ragoon is awesome as well. For the price it is really hard to beat.
Best Chinese food in Indiana!. Love it! Worth driving 40 minutes! When I was a little girl, we were regular customers of the Lotus Garden on the northside and sad that it left the northside. I love dining in and Lotus Garden is always served every Christmas at my home. We get the dinner for 5. You can't go wrong with anything you order...their American menu is very good, too!
Been going there since I was young, same as my mom back in the 60s/70s. I always enjoy going there especially for sweet & sour chicken & getting waited on by Wayne, a dear sweet old man. Don't let the exterior fool you - definitely not a shady Chinese buffet as most places are today. As authentic as it comes!
Best egg rolls ever not that crappy ginger egg roll that everywhere else has these are addictive fantastic
