Last Monday night (July 3rd) we went to the Harvest Seasonal Grill for the first time – and it will certainly not be our last visit. Having been in the food service industry for many years, I tend to be more critical than most when reviewing a restaurant. I judge a meal not only for the quality and presentation of the food but also the ambiance of the facility, the attentiveness of the wait staff, and the overall vibe of the operation.
For starters, the genuine hospitality of the staff was refreshing – extremely welcoming and extremely attentive to our special requests throughout the meal. Our main server, Nanci, was fantastic – she quickly answered (without hesitation) the questions we had regarding the menu and she wasn’t afraid to make recommendations. To complete the hospitality, the manager (Jeff) stopped by our table to welcome us to the restaurant and later came back to make sure our meals were okay.
The menu may not be for everyone – it combines farm-to-table and health-consciousness with many ingredient twists and unexpected combinations. Certainly not the typical Central PA fare! For us, the menu worked. We split 3 appetizers – the Crab & Shrimp Cocktail, Tuna Tartare, and Spicy Thai Calamari. I would order all 3 again but the star was the calamari – it was very similar to an Italian calamari salad….light, tender, and bursting with flavor. If you’re sick of the typical fried calamari you find at every restaurant (as I am), then give this a try. For entrees, we had the BBQ Pork Chop with a chipotle blackberry BBQ sauce – a great choice recommended by our server. It came with a spot-on corn risotto and grilled asparagus. We also ordered a side of the Cast Iron Cornbread – the bread was fantastic but it was served with unsalted butter…sorry, I need salt in my butter. We finished the meal with a couple of dessert “shooters” – chocolate mouse and peanut butter cream….both were a hit.
Overall, a great meal in a laid back, yet upscale atmosphere. Kudos for a meal well done! We’ll be back soon.
My husband and I decided to try this place on the recommendation of a close friend. I was not disappointed at all! The decor is beautiful and it feels very intimate with the candlelight and dark wood. The server was very knowledgable about the menu and gave us suggestions. If you love wine and craft beers, their options are extensive. Everything is locally grown and harvested, they know where every vegetable, fruit and protein are from. We spent over $100 for our meal for 2, but we did not leave hungry or with leftovers. I fully recommend trying this place, and often as their menu is seasonal and changes with the seasons. I can't wait to go back in a few weeks and try the spring selections!!
Just tried this place on our way home to MD. It's so great to find a place with legit gluten-free options, where they don't make you feel like an inconvenience or a weirdo for not eating gluten. The avocado-artichoke dip was delicious and when we ran out of the crispy gluten-free pita, our server immediately offered us more pita or cucumbers & carrots to finish off the dip. I enjoyed the Strawberry Chicken Salad and my husband loved his gluten-free Chicken Club. Our server, Kathleen, was friendly and attentive with great timing. Even the bathrooms are nice. I wish Harvest would open a location in Gaithersburg MD!
