Uncle Gene's soul food is my go-to place for my favorite mac and cheese smothered turkey wings the food is great and the service is awesome
They were out of the desserts I wanted to try so I got the pound cake. It was just ok. I also tried the seafood combo with fish and shrimp, good flavor but the fish had a lot of bones, more than I’m use to so be careful and eat the fish with caution. I did order whiting but somehow got a piece of catfish in which I don’t eat. They were out the sides I wanted to try so I had to opt for the collard greens and Mac n cheese instead both were good and I was super grateful they gave me a corner piece. The service was great cooked to order so I was grateful for that. Will support again and try the stuff I originally wanted. One thing they can improve on is offering sauce or condiments with the seafood at least some tarter sauce or hot sauce packets.
I've only ever gotten the fried gizzards but I've gotten it 100x and it's never failed me. As a matter of fact I'm going today 💜might try something new...lol
The cashier displayed great customer service skills. She was very helpful and polite. I got the oxtail. It treated really good. After being spoiled from Jamaican restaurant on 103rd, I anticipated more rice in my plate and at least 6 pieces (only got 4...if 5 then it was really tiny) of oxtail for the large since the pieces were not big. The Mac and cornbread was delicious! I'm not a fan of the potato salad. I'll visit again.
THE best fried shrimp. THE best fried Okra (GOOD fried okra is hard to find - you’ll find it here). THE best naked lemon pepper wings. I don’t know what it is about their fried food, but it’s SO clean, and SO good. My toddler boys even eat every bit of their plates! 100 stars.
I really enjoyed my food and the server/cashier was very patient. Definitely going back to try something else on their menu. Outta towners: definitely worth a try, cute little place, hidden local gem!
I was looking for a place to get chitterlings for my mom. I googled this place and made the drive over there. It was absolutely worth the drive. The gizzards were fried to perfection. My nephew didn’t want to even share one with me😂😂😂. My mom loved her food.
Update: uncle Gene has not returned to their store front. I visited back in February and ordered the gizzards as well as a meal. I have to say the kisses were just as good as before. However, the food was cooked well, but could have used some more seasoning . Otherwise, it was a good experience.
They’re really nice caring and know how to properly run a business don’t get me started on the amazing food! I’ll be going on for hours

Collards Greens are perfectly on point. This whole dish is amazing!! They do no wrong with there food, and plating100% great service too
Makes me regret moving, I used to live nearby and my wife, son and I all three really enjoyed eating here.
We’re going to make the drive soon because we miss the food, service and prices.
I’m hoping it lives up to our memories of how good it was.
