Let me tell you: I’m very into authentic ethnic food. The realer, the better. So when I had the arroz con pollo here, I didn’t have high expectations. I was wonderfully surprised by the flavors, textures and balance of meat and rice. I did order it with the queso on the side as a precaution, didn’t want that to overload the meal. Great idea. The signature dip was unique. The beef cut thru the cheese dip by bringing a variance that was worth trying. The atmosphere is subdued but with color pockets in the details. Overall, this place is like taking the cliche Hispanic restaurant theme and turning it on it’s head: bright airy seating with subtle touches of Southwest Hispanic feel.
Great food and drinks menu is a little much with way to many choices and could be simplified. Overall fresh and seasoned well food. I had tamales which tasted amazing a little doughy but still delicious. We even went in for fried icecream and amazing. Not my go to for Mexican but would dine here again no problem. Excellent staff.
2/20/16 - We've eaten at Pelancho's the eight years living in Knoxville. The food is pretty constant, good flavor. The salsa and chips are always good - I really like the cilantro bite of the salsa, not many Mexican restaurants put enough of this spice into their salsa and food. It's what makes Mexican Mexican.
