We loved this place! We had a group of 10 and they were so accommodating. The manager was great. Loved his sense of humor. Everyone working there was happy. Our waiter was Art. Our waitress was Alana. They were great! The food was very good. We especially loved the fungi pizza. We had carry out the first night and liked it so much that we went back. We would recommend it to others.
Just moved to the Shores and this is now my favorite place to hang out. Super friendly staff and amazing food. The atmosphere is welcoming with a fun chill vibe. The staff and management actually took the time to get to know us. I have a feeling I will be spending a lot of time at this cozy place. Food A+ Staff A+ Neighborhood A+!!
Good pizza, good service, nice atmosphere.
We wanted a light dinner so we ordered the pizza and a couple of Peroni's. The pizza was very good, cooked in a brick oven, I believe. The server was efficient and attentive. Lively, fun atmosphere. The menu had many tempting dishes.
Been at this restaurant a couple times. Love the menu and gluten free options.
I always like to go there with friends they have a patio outback for large parties.
Atlantic Salmon is one of my Favorite dishes, last time I had a Special Pasta of the Day with Italian Sausage and peas and some homemade sauce.
Service its always nice and knowledgeable.
Definitely a place to try!!!
Authentic Italian spot, definitely a hidden gem of San Diego but a La Jolla Locals Favorite! The Bolognese Pasta is to die for, and the atmosphere is warm and friendly, laid back & beachy.
Don't get too excited. Decor this this time of year is neat...and drew us in, but food was nothing special and service was very slow....refills on drinks were almost impossible to get. probably would not go back
Barbarellar. This place is great! Excellent food and service. I loved the food and felt like I was at home.
Lunch is great, Dinner not so much. We love the lunch menu here, it's eclectic with a mix of Irish, English and American offerings.
Great service regardless of time of day.
We just aren't big fans of the dinner menu, we had a tough time finding something that we liked. It seemed that it was pushing the limits on Italian cuisine, with very little being familiar to my family (who travels to Italy quite often.
If you want to get off the norm and try something new, then the dinner menu is for you. If you like a great lunch menu with a lot to offer for almost everyone, then the lunch menu is for you.
A find!. Recommended by our kayaking trip guide, this was an excellent meal. Very attentive waitstaff and a great sidewalk cafe view close to the beach. Will definitely go back
Cozy. Romantic. Go where the locals go. Great food. Be open to trying new things....WORTH IT! Save room for dessert. Watch for sharky waiters---we asked for a smooth house red---which was coincidently the most expensive on the list. Nevermind the snag--we would take our mothers!!--that's how good it was!
Shindy.TV loves this place.. Shindy.TV recommends the restaurant Barbarella in La Jolla on Avenida de la Playa. Great dinner there last night. Delicious; great service.
Great food with friendly ownership and service. Try the Pizza Max for dinner or the organic egg sandwich for lunch. Just a block from the beach.
We went here for a Halloween weekend breakfast, and really enjoyed the experience. The Halloween decorations are a lot of fun, but the vibe was still very relaxed, with open windows and comfortable seating. The food was also pretty good - I definitely recommend the breakfast potatoes.
We're looking forward to going back for dinner sometime. As a bonus it's located in a great spot for a walk to the beach after.
Cute place. Patio seating. Nice decor.
Food and drinks are okay.
Service is great. One of us didn't like our drinks and they happily brought us a different one.
Tried the seafood linguine. The decorative flowers didn't really go with the dish taste wise but made it look nice.
We were in town and celebrated a birthday here. The food overall was good and came in a decent portion. The only exception was the risotto that we ordered which really wasn’t done properly and really expensive for what we got. It was the mushroom risotto but it didn’t have a variety of expensive mushrooms. It was very basic and bland.
Not sure if service in the US is a bit different than in Canada but we did expect a bit more attention from our server. He was friendly but not really attentive. He didn’t check on us after we received our food. Plates weren’t cleared when people finished their food. We did get a dessert with a candle on the house but it came when someone at our table wasn’t even finished her dinner yet. I think the lack of service was probably due to the fact that they automatically add a 20% tip to the bill when it’s a certain number for a party. It was a nice experience overall but not sure I’d go back because it’s a bit expensive for average tasting food.
We had dinner reservations nearby and stopped in here for a cocktail prior. We chose this place due to all the positive reviews and it most definitely didn’t disappoint!
Put bartender was great, very engaging and knowledgeable. The place itself is eclectic and unique, as they seem to decorate for each of the holidays. There were huge Halloween blow-ups on the roof and so very many Halloween decorations inside.
The cocktail list is also updated by the season, which is really cool! Our cocktails had interesting, Halloween-themed names and tasted great! They offer some really good looking Italian food and brick oven pizza. Everything we saw go by looked and smelled amazing, too bad we had other plans for dinner.
Definitely would return and grab dinner next time!
Barbarella truly gives you an experience! They go above and beyond! From the atmosphere, to the food to the service, it's all top notch. Thank you guys for an amazing dinner. We will be back again very soon.
Barbarella delivers an unparalleled experience, surpassing expectations in every aspect. The atmosphere, culinary offerings, and service all stand out as top-notch. A heartfelt thank you to the team for providing us with an exceptional dinner. Rest assured, we look forward to returning very soon for another delightful visit.
This place caught our eye when we saw the lited LOVE sign. It was all decorated for Valentines Day. Huge Teddy Bears were sitting at the tables all around the restaurant.
So fun!!
We ordered the lamb, so tender, asparagus, and the vegetarian pasta, and due to dietary restrictions, they let us order with it tossed in olive oil, no problem.
Everything was so delightful!
The food is very average. We liked the ambiance and service. We had the salmon eggs Benedict and the avocado toast. The avocado toast was not good at all. The Benedict was certainly better but nothing special.
Came here for a brunch event with a group of girls and safe to say everyone loved the place!
Really good vibe with the outside seating and perfect for a Saturday morning.
Food was really nice as well. Very big portion sizes which was surprising considering how most places give such a small amount of food.
Chicken Sandwich (grilled chicken, baby arugula, provolone cheese, garden basil pesto, heirloom tomato, lemon aioli, on sourdough bread)
Was it really nice. Very generous sized chicken breast, and it was cooked perfectly well as well. Very nice amount of arugula and cheese and pesto and everything on their. Flavor combination was really good. I asked to remove the tomato because I'm not a fan of that.
Sourdough bread was also nice and fresh and toasted.
Tiny complain is that it got very soggy with the amount of pesto and aioli on there so the bread was falling apart.
Got this with the side salad instead of fries. A bit disappointed that they charged a whole extra $5 for subbing a salad. Definitely not what I was expecting.
Salad was pretty decently sized though. Should have asked for dressing on the side because it was quite a bit on there. I had to end up leaving some of the salad because it was too soaked up with dressing.
Side of Broccolini was lovely. Nice garlicy flavor and very easy to finish by just one person as well!
Only downside is that it had a little bit too much oil.
Others on the table got the Eggs Benedict, the Avocado Toast and the Acai Bowl and everyone finished everything on the plate.
Big portion sizes on everything which was nice.
I was visiting from out of town and everyone recommended Barbarella. I really enjoyed its location so close to the beach. We got the Barbarella classics:
Pasta Al Forno - Baked Orecchiette Pasta, Gorgonzola, Leek, Italian Pancetta, Light Cream Sauce
Barbarella Burger - Grilled Hamburger, Bib Lettuce, Heirloom Tomato, Marinated Grilled Red Onions, Brioche Bun
Everything was amazing! We were here for their brunch menu but apparently their dinner is even more amazing with their wood fired oven fish dishes!
