Expensive, but delicious gem in downtown Lake Worth. The Pelican Restaurant is a dichotomy of sorts -- it's got a diner atmosphere with delicious food, but at gourmet prices. Service is generally good, but can be spotty when they're in the weeds. Be aware that it's a cash only operation, but there is an ATM inside if you're in a jam. At peak times (Sunday a.m. between 10 and 12), there are lines out the door and you may have to sit at the counter or outside if you can't wait. They serve standard American breakfast fare including Eggs Benedict, omelets, grits, home fries and probably the best pancakes I've ever tasted, which are bigger than a bread plate. (Consider sharing an order with your table mates if you're ordering other things.) The coffee is outstanding and beats Dunkin' Donuts by a mile. However, off of the printed menu is a hand-written white board with all sorts of Indian breakfast specials, which are spicy and delicious. The sign says, "Open daily for Breakfast" from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., closing at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. However, on Friday nights (5 p.m. - 9 p.m.), they serve a special Indian Dinner with lots of delicious meat and vegetarian entrees, but the dinners are as over-priced as the breakfast entrees. I don't know about you, but I find $35 for two for breakfast and $65 for two for dinner (including a shared appetizer, mango lassis, but no alcohol) seems a bit much for having a meal at a hole-in-the-wall-diner. The Indian dinner is supposed to include drink and dessert, but be advised that if they run out of nan or desert (which they have on more than one occasion), you don't get a break on the bill, which is unfortunate. Maybe the era of cheap eats is over, but you might find it worth the hassle of trying to find parking downtown, the noise of the diner atmosphere (people constantly going in and out the door), and the price for the privilege of tasting some truly inspired and delicious Ameri-Indian fare.
Friday is Indian food night. Terrific home-style Indian food. Dishes for vegetarians as well as chicken, meat or shrimp eaters. Large portions served with rice and naan.
The food tastes like home cooking.
Cute place. I’ve been a Lake Worth resident for years and just now decided to try this place. I was not disappointed. The location is convenient, the food was good, and the staff was super nice. The only drawback is it’s cash only but I knew that before going in and it’s not really that big of a deal. I will definitely be returning.
