Drinks average about 20 per. The only food they serve are nuts. If you want to eat you can go eat else where for a proper meal, perhaps Coles.
Wow! This is hands down my favorite craft cocktail lounge in LA. Every time I go on a vacation I am searching for a craft cocktail lounge and this one delivers and so much more. The ambience is 20’s speak easy. I heard they also do live jazz music. I can’t wait to see that some day!
This place was an absolute gem. I wouldn’t hesitate to take friends or a date here again for a great night out. We were greeted warmly by the bouncer and staff. The small bar was dark and intimate but the drinks were among the best we have had in LA. We ordered off menu and the bartenders made us some of the most refreshing and flavourful cocktails we have ever had. They also had live singing and piano whilst we were there. Loved this spot.
It felt like stepping back in time. Delicious old fashion with a bartenders twist. Unexpected live music which just went over the top for our experience.
Best Cocktails in LA. Intimate speakeasy with the perfect vibe. Live music is always delightful. Bartenders are knowledgeable and put a smile on my face. Historic room, a real speakeasy from prohibition era. I love the French dip sandwich and tots and beer selection of Cole's Sandwiches in the front.
It’s a super neat place. The vibe and decor are just right for a jazz speakeasy.
Drinks were lovely and the music was delightful.
They have live music on Sunday to Wednesday after 9pm.
I've gone there two times and both I've had excellent cocktails, very balanced, rich, and super high quality.
Don't be afraid to go for the "bartender's choice". They'll give you something delicious just let them know what you're in the mood for.
The bartenders are very kind and attentful. Specially Roberto, he's one of the most amazing bartenders I've ever met, very attentive to detail, really good at mixing, and he has an amazing memory to remember people and has a great character (he said hi to us when he was walking by the taco truck where we were having late dinner).
This is definitely a place for cocktail lovers, best place in LA I've found so far. Highlight of my LA trip 😄
I knew I was in the right place when the menu included “Bartenders choice.” It typically signals a place where bartenders take their craft seriously. And that’s true about Varnish. The server(who is also a bartender) asked my wife and I a few questions about drink preferences. He returned with two off-menu cocktails that we both loved. They were both well balanced and delicious. The space is dimly lit but not too dark. Hidden in the back of Cole’s it lives up to the speak easy spirit.
Nice speakeasy. Speciality is picking a cocktail for you. This works to an extent. The chosen cocktail was very good. But overall this led to very slow service from the wait staff rather than bar staff. 1.5 hours for two cocktails each.
Very dope vibe. This is the reason I love dive bars. But it’s not that “divey”…. There’s a swanky speak easy in the back. Very sexy vibe in the back room. Upfront it’s no frills and all chill…. I love it. Dollar pool games, drinks not too expensive! I’ll be back. Best of both worlds!
