We just picked this place randomly as it was on our way home from our family trip to Big Bend and well we received quite a bonus by picking this place. They happened to be having a star party the night we stayed there. This place actually sits in one of the areas that has the best skies to see stars in the world (Scale 1). And on the night we were there a bunch of astronomers showed up and with the owner and some of his employees they let you look thru their telescopes. My son was just fascinated by it all. Bill one of the folks that helps run the observatory there, spent hours with us explaining all the ins and outs of astronomy. We stayed up to 11:30 and then woke up early to meet Bill to look at the stars and planets that rose in the early hours before sunrise (I had never seen Saturn and it rings like that or Jupiter with its moons. We learned so much in those 5 hours from Bill about astronomy. When we got home the next night my son had our telescope outside to try and find some of the things we saw the previous night. Of course our telescope and the Austin sky is no where near as good or dark as this place so it was not nearly as fun. Bill, thank you for a magical night with my son and peaking his curiosity.
