I only wish I had found this place earlier....
It is not fancy, it is an old school diner with fabulous food!
Foam plates, plastic utensils, and damn....
I so want to come back and try their chili. I will be back. Great history, great food! Nice staff....
This breakfast bowl was to die for...literally... So good.....
True southern breakfast. Fresh and tasty yet reasonably priced. The biscuits are to die for. The owner is so thoughtful. Loved the Christian music playing in the background. It’s these owner operated restaurants that make places like Nashville wonderful!
We stopped by for lunch. My Little Princess had the spaghetti combo. I had a chili dog, cheese burger, and chilli with tamale.
The food was good, but nothing exceptional. Counter service with food delivered, and service was excellent.
The chili dog is a fork and knife eat as opposed to hand held, so make sure to get a fork and knife before you sit down. The burger would be better with thin slices onions and tomato. My Little Princess would have been happier if the meatballs were more like home made meatballs.
Regardless, it's a landmark, of this menu offerings are of your liking, give it a try.
We feel so lucky to have found this place! Inexpensive but delicious food in Nashville? Unheard of! Staff was delightful! We will definitely be back.
A ‘joint’ for sure - which usually means amazing food. Super nice people, cool old vibe, less than memorable food. Chili tasted like #10 can of hormel. Tamale tasted like food service canned tamale. Omelet was just an omelet. Prices were decent for Nashville. Honestly, we would not go back. Sorry they would need to kick it up for a better review.
Amazing establishment, great history, been around since 1907, I eat breakfast here when I’m in Nashville around a dozen times a year. Quality food at very reasonable prices, I started coming here in 2018 on a tip from a construction worker (a guy who knows hearty breakfast). My family enjoy the friendly and clean atmosphere. Bob took over an I met him and he’s a hard worker and has great cooks in the back, they know what they’re doing. Heaven on a paper plate (omelet main go to, French toast, grits, bacon all the way I like it). Hit up Varallo’s any chance you get.
Loved the breakfast bowl! Great spot for breakfast, next time we will try lunch too!
Good reason that place has been around for so long
Great Service and quality food. Got to love a three way Chili bowl that includes a tamale. Don't miss the opportunity to add a grilled cheese
In a town full of fancy options, I love finding where the locals eat. Sometimes a delcious basic breakfast is all the soul needs. I had a really good cheese and sausage omelet, hasbrowns and biscuits. I'll be back!
wow. this place is amazing. it has a very old fashioned but homey atmosphere, and service was very friendly and welcoming. food is served in styrofoam and plastic utensils, but dang is it good. we ordered chile with tamale, egg biscuit, pancakes, and a bec (bacon egg cheese) biscuit. prices are different
(more expensive) than as stated on the online menu, but still fairly cheap prices.
chile- and tamale- were awesome. tasted authentic. if you’re going to come here , you should definitely try the chili. you won’t be disappointed.
would give egg biscuit four stars, it tasted good, but it was pretty small for the price we paid.
bec biscuit is pretty much the same, my sister thought that the way that the bacon and egg were cooked was perfect, but the biscuit was very crumbly and “fell apart too easily”
pancakes were average diner pancakes, nothing super special but they were good pancakes, they were soft and didn’t even need syrup, they were already sweet enough.
overall I’d give Varello’s 5 stars, i will definitely visit again for the chile!
