Super cozy NY diner like something out of a movie. My husband and I came here almost every morning while in NY.
The service we received was excellent, but you can’t really take my word on that. My husband and I can’t seem to find rude service anywhere we eat in the world so we figure we reap what we sow. People just seem to bend over backwards to please us.
The portions here are huge. We had tried the breakfast platters with sausages not realizing the sausages would be so huge and there would be such a mountain of hash-browns. Everything tasted great.
About the best thing I tried was the egg salad sandwich. It, of course, was humongous and I loved that it came very neatly wrapped in wax paper to keep your hands clean. It was so tasty and so fresh, like your grandma just made it. So, so good.
When back in NY I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Looking for that cosy diner feel we stepped into Astros for breakfast only to wait in a long queue to be seated. As my dad always says, the longer the wait the more in demand the restaurant is. So with high hopes and a healthy appetite we waited for our turn.
The place is small and the staff is bustling orders across the place. Seating so small and cosy with the option of tables or eating at the counter. The menu has a good selection and we opted for the platter with sausage (pork), bacon, eggs (sunny side up) and potatoes. Expecting the regular salted side, the potatoes were actually a surprise spiced preparation that balanced the meal beautifully. It is served with 2 slices of toast. We also tried the cinnamon and raisin French toast which was just the right amount of sweet. We were filled thoroughly at the end of the meal.
Expect good quick service but a 10-15min wait to be seated.
Oldschool Diner. I visit Astro for breakfast every time in midtown and only get one thing: the lox platter. It's pretty hard to screw up, and I realize you can get it at tons of places, but this is old school at it's best. I love sitting at the diner listening to the regulars bitch about but the train and the subway. It doesn't get much better than quality lox and a toasted bagel, accompanied by capers, onion, cream cheese, tomatoes, peppers and lettuce!
