Forget about all the hype peter lugers has. This is by far the best steak in town. Go to the Park Ave location not the Tribeca one. You will not be disappointed. I have been to almost every "great" steakhouse in NYC, this is by far the best
A must visit in New York City. We were wise enough to make a reservation as this place gets crowded from 6 in the evening which only shows how popular it is. We got some soft bread as we were seated and went on to ordering our steaks. The porterhouse steak which serves two or more was suggested by our waiter. It was seared to perfection , medium rare juicy and tender . Overly satisfying for three people with a good appetite. Despite being uber full we had to try the desserts. My cousin insisted we try the hot chocolate sundae. It came in a tall glass with a generous amount of whip cream and chocolate sauce. Just a cherry on top of a great meal. Stuffed till the top we left with our tummies feeling great! A little expensive but I wouldn't complain to pay a buck or more for a great steak.
This is a place where you have to go big on everything. We always order family style porterhouse steak and the waiter will be able to tell how much meat you need to order. The steaks are well-seared and very tender. I suggest getting them cooked at medium. For the side dishes, our favorites include the cream spinach, german potatoes, and asparagus. We also love the caesar salad.
Schlag, their homemade whipped cream, is a must for dessert. Best with fruits, I say.
