We were in Chinatown and had cravings for yum cha, Oriental Garden was randomly selected out of many in the area. It wasn't busy but to be honest I prefer it buzzing as it adds to the liveliness of the restaurant. There were also no push carts so we ordered a la carte. It was your standard yum cha items, nothing to write home about, no one item was exceptional nor was it bad but it helped fill the void.
My hubby and I looooove dim sum so we had to try dim sum in the heart of Chinatown. Oriental Garden did not disappoint. We ordered from a menu - if you've had dim sum before then you'll know there are a few ways of ordering. Everything we ordered came out fairly quick and fresh. Everything was delicious! Service was also good which is not seen often in an Asian restaurant.
As I was going to Grand Street today, I decided to stop for dim sum. Chinatown was not crowded due to the long July 4th weekend. I decided to go to Oriental Garden which had no queue. Then I saw the 'B' grade which was a surprise but it could have been as simple as a dishcloth in the wrong place. The tables were filled with people eating away. Dim sum is served here either with ladies pushing carts or ordering from a menu. I started with pork shumai.. Then I had shrimp overload with shrimp dumplings and the shrimp rice roll. The rice roll wrapper was too thick and not as silky as I have had at other restaurants. A couple sitting at my table gave me an egg custard tart which had a flaky crust and a pleasant flavor.
Good dim sum and spring rolls filled with shrimp along with shrimp wrapped in rice noodles. All in all they are pretty quick with bringing dishes in and out (so the food was hot) and the food was decent.
Fantastic. Everything tasted great; up to Hong Kong standards, in my opinion. Exceptionally gracious, patient, and friendly staff. Glad we skipped the line/mob outside Jing Fong and went two doors down. Got seated immediately.
Busy. Good sign. Some of the best dim sum in new york. Every dish seemed that little bit better. Or I was just hungry:
A favorite for dim sum!! Always fresh and delicious. Weekdays around 12 is the perfect time to go!! Get the Hong Kong fried rice made with egg whites and shrimp. You will not be disapointed!
The place was pretty busy at lunch time on a Sunday. But we were seated right away by agreeing to share the table with another couple. They served dim sum on weekends and that was what we were there for.
We ordered the typical dim sum dishes: Shu Mai, Shrimp dumplings, Rice rolls with shrimp, Pan fried turnip cake, Steamed chicken feet, and Steamed bean curd skin rolls. They were all very tasty and in fact, better than what I have had in New Jersey with similar price points.
It was certainly worth the trip.
This is a very nice dim sum restaurant in China Town. Not as crowded as some on a Saturday morning, so a bit easier to get in and eat. The dim sum is very good, but the service is a bit slower with less carts being wheeled around, than the larger dim sum restaurants. I would still come back and eat here again.
Came with a friend for dim sum because he claims this was better than Jing Fong next door, without the wait. I haven't actually been to Jing Fong but this was really good - prawns were fresh, the skin on the dumplings were reasonably thin. Overall, it wasn't as great as the dim sum in Flushing, Queens, but pretty satisfying nonetheless.
The place has great variety of food, good service, we keep coming back every year .
Delicious Cantonese style food and Dim Sum made to order. The steamed chicken with a delicately flavored lemony sauce melted in your mouth and Shrimp Shu Mai was superb.
Great Food, Great Service! Staff was very friendly. Helpful. Prompt. One of the best experiences for a family meal.
It has been nearly 10 years since the last time I was here. And the dim sum tastes as good as I remember it. If you love authentic dim sum, I highly recommend coming here. I love how fresh the food is. I love watching the food carts being push through the busy dining room. The place is the main reason coming to Chinatown.
Delicious! Definitely my favorite dimsum place in the city.
