Num Pang is a great place to get a quick Cambodian sandwich or salad for lunch or dinner. The sandwiches are fresh and feature unique ingredients, such as pickled carrots and Thai eggplant spread. There are also a wide variety of bottled beverages to quench your thirst and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable if you need more information about the Cambodian specialties. I am partial to the salads which are served in easy to carry take-out containers for eating outdoors on nice days or taking home for dinner. Every salad includes special accompaniments to complement the flavors of the ingredients. The sandwiches are great too- served on fresh baked bread with a crust that adds a big of crispness without being too chewy for easy eating. If you want to eat on site, there is a large dining room with an urban-art feel that provides interesting things to look at while you eat. The dining room is always clean on my visits, even when the restaurant is busy.
Great bang for your buck! Large portion sizes on rice bowls and sandwiches. That yogurt sauce is magical. Easy place to get lunch or dinner on the go. I love to order to go and eat outside of Madison Square Park.
I tried two num pangs, one in Chelsea Market and one in the financial district. Chelsea Market was definitely better. It might be the same food but environment matters too, and Chelsea Market is gorgeous - all that exposed brick and the exhilaration of being in the heart of a hotbed of food places, can't be beat. I had the hoisin meatball sandwich - super tasty, great condiments and the warm soft bread roll was the perfect finishing touch.
