Wow!! Read about this place on Urbanspoon and decided to try it out. I'm so glad I did. I've never had fajitas where I actually wished there were more veggies. The Backyard Fagitas are the way to go. Outstanding wait staff and no wait on getting the food out to you hot.
Have been here three times. Good food and service, Margarita a little on the sweet side but still good. Recommend using GPS, can be a little hard to find. But worth the effort.
Unparalleled Mexican Dining. This was by far a great experience from beginning to end. Everything came in a timely fashion, the server was polite and very attentive. I ordered the Chicken Gourmet ($12.99), it was outstanding and worth it! The servers throughout the restaurant kept their eyes on their respective tables, all seemingly polite and accustomed to providing quality service. It was quite a relief to go to a restaurant, experience both quality service and outstanding authentic food. I'm looking forward to returning soon.
We have found our new favorite Mexican restaurant !!!! Great chicken conqueso (sp)? We got a salsa sampler and was delighted to finally find some heat in the salsa. Kids devoured the cheese dip :), we will be back.
Great food!. As a Latina originally from El Paso, Texas (a border town to Mexico!)...My husband and I have lived on the east coast for 8 years now and have traveled up and down it and have tried very many "authentic" Mexican restaurants. My #1 sought out thing is horchata which usually accompanies my tacos de carne asada. After visiting La Nortena, I saw something that I have not seen on any Mexican restaurant menu...a torta (Mexican sandwich)! And also another thing...agua de melon (cantaloupe water) I haven't had any of those since I went back home so I had to try one. Not only was the torta de jamon one of the best I ever had...the bread was the best! I was almost expecting it to come with Americanized bread but it was 100% authentic Mexican. My husband ordered the nachos and he loved them as well. Definitely coming here in the future and would definitely recommend if you want real authentic Mexican and not the Americanized crap that is common on the east coast. :)
Best Mexican I have had in a few years. Had a party of 6. The service was great. Food was even better. We had a mix of burritos, tortas, and fajitas. The salsa variety they bring you was an unexpected surprise and they were very good. 3 of us had the rice milk(horchatta) and were extremely happy that it was free refill as we each had 2 to 3 refills.

Since we moved to Charleston two years ago from Colorado, we've been searching for good Mexican food and this is, to date, the best we've found. Not as many "combos" on the menu, but a lot of the tried and true favorites.
Definitely worth the trip!
This is a very good option for closer-to-authentic Mexican food. They used to serve menudo, but no longer do. They have redone there menu as well. The portions are large and things like Mexican street corn and a cheesesteak burrito are available. It has gone outside of traditional Mexican food which is still good, but I like the deep culturally traditional food. The salsa that comes with the chips is fresh and taste great. The China and plates are of quality. The service is bilingual, attentive, polite and clean. A uniform exist but some wear it and some don’t. The air conditioning is in the norm. The parking is good but could be larger. I’m happy with the place and have come here for years. It’s better then other Mexican restaurants and close to a Spanish area of Hanahan and North Charleston. It is worth a visit I assure you

Service was slow but friendly. Food was good but a bit salty, and I love salt. Overall a typical Mexican restaurant. Nothing special.
On our way home from the beach and this restaurant was so amazing!! Go check it out!

This has been my favorite authentic Mexican eatery in the area since about 2014; I tell all my friends about it! I've had their tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas, tostadas... pretty much everything I've ordered has been delicious, though the enchiladas are my go-to. The chips are also super fresh and delicious, which is very dangerous because I am not immune to the addictiveness of chips and salsa (or their awesome guac) and I have to pace myself so I don't get too stuffed before I get my meal. Service is always prompt even when they're busy and our servers are always awesome.
Dropped in today with my client for a quick lunch and we both ordered the crazy beef taco salad. It was fantastic.
Left with a full belly and slipped into a foodie coma. (No I didn’t enjoy any margaritas).
With all this cold weather, I was happy to enjoy a hot meal but healthy bc it was a salad. ROFL!

Absolutely brilliant food! My buddy and I work near this restaurant and it's always our go to for lunch! I've never had an order be messed up or my food come out bad. I've nothing but great things to say! I recommend that everyone try this place out, you will not regret it! Thank you La Nortena!
Good food and Service. Dining atmosphere was good also. The negative is the Prices on the menu. Just to much for servings. Prices comparable to a high end Steak House in my opinion. Check them out, I'd recommend them if Price isn't a big concern.
Great place to enjoy some tasty seafood made with a Mexican twist. The flavors pop and the freshness is evident with each bite! It's a small, casual place in a strip mall. The service was spot-on, we never had to wait long when we needed something. It is my son-in-law's fave spot in Charleston - I hope to be back soon!
