If you are looking for a blast from the past, no muss, no fuss, old school restaurant run by the effervescent charming older gal by the name of Dolly, then look no further than the oldest restaurant in old north Charleston called Idle Hour, 11 to 3 m-sat. Old time Diner fare, from days gone by like momma used to make, at prices that don't break the budget at, worth twice the price for the entertaining personality and repartee of Dolly and the patrons. 10 bucks for a hand rolled burger, fries and old North Charleston sweet tea home cooked with grandma love and spunkyness.

This place is amazing. The hamburgers are delicious and the hometown charm is a nice touch. We ordered a side of fries and two hotdogs as well. We loved it and we will certainly visit again!

Classic meat and three style lunch counter. Burger is everything you want and nothing you don’t. Feels like having your mom make lunch for you in the most comforting way.

I have been eating here for many years. The food is always good. Great Blue Plate daily special. The chili dogs and hamburgers are made the old fashion way. Ms Dolly and the ladies that greet you are always friendly and make you feel welcome. Best sweet tea in town. One of the original restaurants on Montague. Thank you Ms Dolly for your dedication.

It's hard not to get romantic about a place like this. Three wonderful ladies own this place and work here. They've been doing it for decades! They prepare delicious food for you like your grandmother did when you visited her house when you were a kid. They're also not afraid to put you in your place if you're being over bearing. The decor hasn't changed in 30 years and it's perfect. This place is so retro the hipsters haven't had a chance to ruin it yet. Their determination to serve quality food for lunch on a daily basis is undeniable. I over heard one of them talking the day after the inside had flooded due to heavy rain, and she said "I'm not giving up. I can't." I love this place and I will continue to return time after time.

We've loved the Idle Hour since we started going there about 20 years ago. It's still owned and operated by Dolly, she's pretty much a North Charleston icon. If you want local, casual, reasonably priced food, this is a great place to go. We like the daily specials (ham, lima beans & rice, souhern style cabbage, mac'n'cheese, etc) and their chili burgers are really good! Don't be expecting trendy farm fresh. But do expect a very tasty meat and sides plate kind of like the 50 somethings in the south grew up on so it takes you back home

Hands down the best little diner, restaurant anywhere in all of the low country bar none. 2 of the most lovely ladies work hard and deliver a very delicious meal with the best smiles this side of the Mississippi 😍. Worth driving in the pouring rain in traffic to be in such a wonderful place . One try and your hooked just like we were. We will see you soon Dolly 😊

Delicious diner-style burger. Place is run by some lovely ladies with a combination of humor and no nonsense approach. I asked for medium rare, and she said “we don’t do that” and kept cooking. She was serious... it is her way or the highway, so I shut up and ate what she gave me. Great prices along with a comfortable and entertaining atmosphere.

Idle Hour is the best spot for Saturday morning breakfast. This is one of the original staple businesses of North Charleston. When you walk in you will feel like you are in your mother's kitchen. The ladies who run the restaurant are so nice, make great food, and are full of decades worth of stories about the area.
