We had dinner on a Saturday night and what a special, intimate and delicious experience. My husband and I follow a mostly vegan diet at home and eating out can be no fun at all. Here, everything is completely plant based and each course will blow your mind. We enjoyed each of the five courses but the favorites were the cashew ricotta stuffed pasta with chipotle cream corn and pickled radish, the coconut and ginger bisque and the dessert...amazing. The food quality was superb, the service was efficient, warm and friendly. Each plate was a work of art! Go, whether you're vegan or not...if you love fine artfully-prepared food and a true dining experience, you will love it.
Miss Rachel's Pantry was somewhat of a home-away-from-home for my husband and I when we first moved to Philadelphia. The friendly service, the quaint vintage decor and, of course, the comforting, flavor-packed food helped us to muster up the courage to go out and explore the new city we moved to. The constantly rotating menu items suited my terribly indecisive and picky appetite. Every weekend we would make a trip to the "pantry" to treat ourselves to a decadent breakfast and a friendly chat with our favorite counter-person. We were very disappointed when we found out the market and daytime restaurant were to be closed. We have yet to attend a dinner but we're still secretly hoping that one day, the pantry will open back up and we can once again have a good breakfast.
As a vegetarian, this is my FAVORITE restaurant in Philadelphia. No kidding. We used to place Horizon's as our top choice, but Miss Rachel now holds that spot. Yes, we can get great Asian food, or great pasta (occasionally) elsewhere, and there are thankfully several other fun vegan restaurants in Philly. These new ones are good, but we are not fans of the tapas/small plate approach. Miss Rachel provide an inventive, inspired, menu that leaves you full at a reasonable price. We also love Miss Rachel genuine sense of warmth and hospitality. Given a choice, when I am looking for a really good dinner, I would go to Miss Rachel's any time over her direct competitors and certainly even before the big name multi-star restaurants who just don't cater to vegetarians in a stand-out way.
