I dropped by here on a rainy Sunday morning and truly enjoyed this cafe. They have delicious Chinese style pastries and buns priced around a dollar and make a delicious Vietnamese coffee. They also have various other coffees and iced teas and plenty of community style seating.
solid cup of coffee and pastry for under 5 bucks.
recommend the red bean buns!
Mayflower is a hole-in-the-wall, authentic bakery in Chinatown. We have visited MANY of these in our travels across the USA & often visit local businesses in the international district of our hometown.
Things you should know:
I. LOCATION
The bakery is the one with the blue canopy. Pretty easy to find.
II. QUALITY
The Coconut Bun Pastry we bought was cheap, but made very well. It was an excellent pineapple style bun with a FULL coconut filling. It was soft, meaning it was FRESH and just melts in your mouth. We bought a Vietnamese coffee too; this was a first time buy for us both so I have no comparison base to go off of.
III. SERVICE
Cash ONLY or Venmo. No complaints.
IV. SEATING
Limited. Very limited. We couldn't find somewhere to sit. Traffic flow was consistent for a Friday Evening.
It’s really good! Love it!
I've tried egg tarts from several bakeries in Chinatown, and this one is the best. It's a bit pricier, but it's worth it.
They have a wide selection of Chinese buns that are all delicious. They also have cakes and boba. I highly recommend the egg and ham bun. Come early in the morning for the best selection of buns. For large orders it's best to call ahead and order over the phone.
Rating is based entirely on their pork buns which are incredibly good. We get a dozen whenever we are in chinatown.
Even at 4pm the custard buns were still fresh
Really soft buns, very affordable
First time today - liked their Vietnamese coffee (not too sweet), and tried their coconut cream bun - REALLY good. Will go back to try their other baked goods. Relatively cheap prices, too.
