This place really met all the hype. I've heard so much about Ava Gene's over the years and am a regular at their next door pizza place, Cicoria. It's a very nice restaurant, great service staff, and the vibe is very relaxed. The pasta was so so delicious and we really enjoyed our sardine toast.

The wine selection is very good at Ava Genes, but you will pay for it. The food, wine and service were top notch. The lighting was too dark for my old eyes, but it did not seem to bother the younger folks in our party. A good place for a special dinner.

If you are driving parking is difficult because there are many restaurants in the area and it's in a populated residential area. Reservations are highly recommend. The restaurant is tastefully decorated. Employees are very attentive and helpful. This is the best tasting food I've had in the Portland area. We definitely will be back. Note: There is always a 20% gratuity charge added to your check.
