It was busy when we got there but if you dint care about sitting at the bar it’s relatively quick.
Had to try it after we were told the water in Portland is similar to that of Japan’s when it comes to PH levels which makes the Ramen taste very authentic.
Not sure of the names of what we got.
Quiet atmosphere but bustling business. We had a very nice waiter, Isaac. Everything was timely and efficient. The presentation of the food was clean and efficient. The sushi was more traditional than many American sushi houses and it was a nice change from the heavy rolls I am used to. I have the Avocado Maki Roll and the Hotate Roll with fresh Hokkaido shrimp . The Tonkotsu Tantanmen ramen had great flavor and a great level of spice. Just the right amount of pork to noodles ratio and plenty of shitake ... Definitely will be back when we come to Portland. My only complaint, and it's all me, is I like larger portions... But these are healthy sizes and did not at all skimp. 😁
I had an amazing experience! The person at the entrance was very pleasant, the facilities were clean with lots of bar space and the waiter Adam was funny, helpful and attentive. I had the sushi, the mackerel, and dessert. Each item was made with such care and attention to detail. The quality of the sushi was top notch, and the portions were generous. Of note, the soy sauce was phenomenal! The cooked fish was flavorful with crunchy skin and super juicy and tender meat. It was topped with the best tomatoes I’ve ever had. The desserts were both cute and flavorful. The cocktails are great too. A must visit if you’re in Portland and like good quality sushi!
I spent my birthday dinner here very recently and had the BEST experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant in terms of service and care. I had a group of 10 people show up and the hostess Lauren and her help were incredibly patient, kind, & courteous to us. The waitress was amazing and took a bouquet I had gifted and put them in water/vase for me. Ramen is my favorite type of food and Afuri always tastes so incredibly delicious. I really can’t thank the hosts and wait staff of Afuri SE 7th for making my birthday dinner one I won’t forget. I hope ownership sees this and understands how valuable these people made our experience. All 9 of my guests had never been to your restaurant before and had nothing but great things to say. Thank you!!!
First time trying traditional ramen, so I’m not sure if my rating is completely fair but I’d sure like to think it is with the experience I had at this place! Exceptional customer service, beautiful light-filled and cozy space, and the food was one of the most well-balanced and fresh, flavorful bites I’ve ever had. Will be coming back again and again with friends, family, and myself!
I had no idea how good ramen could be until I discovered AFURI’s Tonkatsu Tantanmen. It’s beautifully made, overflowing with taste and texture, and has become my Friday afternoon treat for myself. I like to sit at the backlit bar for a unique cocktail, or at the counter to steal glances of the passionate cooks preparing their meals. The soup I order fills my soul with joy and peace.
I also appreciate the kind attentiveness of the professional staff. It’s refreshing to have some class in my dining experience.
Such an amazing environment with family and friends to hangout with. I love the ramens here. They’re just phenomenon. The unique taste they have in most dishes are Yuzu. And, don’t forget to order yuzu drinks to pair with. Would definitely go back again if I ever stopped by Portland.

An absolute must go when you want to splurge on some incredible sashimi. The menu is highly curated which may be unfamiliar to those used to the expansive menus of most American sushi joints but I promise the selection will not leave you wanting. If you like variety go for one of the tasting options like the incredible sashimi. The quality of fish is incredible and very generously slices for a truly decadent mouthful every time. The selection of sake, beer, and wine is incredible but if you don't drink much alcohol like me, get the yuzu limeade for a refreshing and bright drink that still feels like something special. Don't skip dessert! Unlike most Japanese restaurants these folks pay at least as much attention to their sweet selection as the savory, offering a handful of really special tarts, cakes, and sorbets. I can see myself coming here just for the chocolate passion fruit tart some time.
This meal was genuinely better than almost any Japanese fare I've had the pleasure of eating. They far exceeded expectations and I tend to set a high bar for sushi.
Great atmosphere. Ramen could be improved. The broth was nearly cold when they served it, though it tasted the same as we had in Tokyo.
We stopped here for lunch on a rainy Saturday in January. No wait, no reservations, and got a seat as soon as we walked in. Place was busy. Cool interior and pretty spacious. I had the spicy yuzu ramen, my wife had the yuzu shoyu, and my daughter had the chirashi don. It was all pretty good and we enjoyed it. I do prefer a thicker chashu with a more tender texture. The base is chicken broth, which is much lighter than a Tonkotsu base. The yuzu flavor brightened the dish.
