This place is family run and has a great staff and chef. The facade belies the amazing food inside. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Portland.
Only been here three times, but each time was a different meal and another favorite dish. It’s worth the try!
Best seafood ever. Wonderful service. Thank you Fishwife! I had the Dungess clam linguine Alfredo which was perfect
My wife and sister had the fishwife seafood special which was amazing.
Memory lane. What a great little find. I didnt think restaurants like this existed anymore. It has a great 60's retro diner feel to it. More importantly it has really good fried seafood as well as some grilled and poached options. This food does NOT even remotely resemble the nasty fried seafood you get so often in pubs and fairs. This has a fresh, crisp clean fried goodness to it. Like you are sitting on a beach and the fish just came out of the ocean. I had a blackened cajun burger with grilled onions and a side of slaw and my wife had the homemade clam chowder. Very nice, very good, very clean, excellent service.
The food was great. Try the fried scallops if you are looking for a treat. It's a great place for a tasty fish treat but don't expect fancy atmosphere it is definitely diner style. Good and attentive service

Great fish, history, and diner decor. Catfish special was great and oysters just right. Dungeonus crab in season is superb.
These were easily the biggest clam strips I've ever had. And like the fish & chips, they were fried perfectly.
We had the scallops, the fish sandwich and chowder. Everything was delicious. The chef knows how to cook fish! The only thing I might not order again is the chowder. It's a very thick style and I like it more brothy. But the seasonings for each dish was perfect. Home made pickled beets on the salad and all the other little touches guarantee we'll be back. The staff is top of notch and we felt special. You must try this place!
The food is a solid 4 stars, portion size is 2. Really good seafood is hard to find. This little diner does a good job serving a delicious, well prepped meal. It feels like a little 1 stat coffee diner with 4 star food. Don't be put off by the neighborhood,, it's worth stopping by. 3.5 overall, better than average.
Nice place. Friendly service. The fish in our fish& chips was a bit blah...maybe a seasonal thing? Good waffle fries.
I ate it so fast I didn't get a picture 😆 got the fried combo dinner and it was great. The coating on the fried seafood is nice and thin, and crisp, not greasy. The garlic mashed potatoes are so flavorful I would drive across town to bring a tub home no joke. The veggie was zucchini (it probably rotates) and it was nice to get something that isn't common as a veggie side. And it came with a side salad that was awesome - micro greens (no iceberg) and a flavorful marinated big slice of beet. Even the salad dressing was great (ranch), and not that oily sugary stuff that comes out of a gross bottle that a lot of restaurants use.
As far as ambiance, it had a family dining vibe.. there is some interesting Ephemera on the walls but there were a lot of groups with loud kiddos packed in, so it wasn't exactly a romantic date.
We will definitely be back, this is some of the best fish and chips we've had in town so far. 😄👍
I’ve driven by this place countless times and never thought to try it out. Went for wife’s birthday and was blown away! We were very happy with our meals. They were wonderfully cooked, seasoned, plated, and most importantly tasted great. We enjoyed the decor and atmosphere inside as well, overall a wonderful experience. Our only problems was that we didn’t visit sooner.
Genuinely the best service we’ve had in portland in years. We got a reservation for a Friday night, our first time in and we get it (fishwife lives up to its reputation) The food was fresh, tasted amazing, presented well and time between dishes perfectly. It’s been a long time since we had this quality of dining experience and we will definitely be back.
Everything we ordered was top notch, super fresh. Highly recommend the fried calamari, best we’ve had and the lemon vinaigrette sauce was phenomenal. Our waitress was super nice and gave great recommendations!
One of my favorite places in N Portland! The food is lovely and it's so cozy. They have been around a while and they have their stuff down.
Really great seafood!! Highly recommend coming here. We had calamari to start (delicious) and then I had cioppino and my husband had seafood fettuccine. It was all so excellent and the seafood cooked to perfection. Still drooling even though I’m full.
There is fish and there is fish.
I was born at a side with fish
I sailed the world catching them
I eat veriaty of. This family restaurant fish brought back all the fantastic memories.
Exquisite fully flavored and modestly served fish is the best i have had for really long time. Thank you very much.
It's a must for all. If not now make sure it gets on your bucket list. You will enjoy it as nothing before.
