Biked here with a couple of my buddies and had breakfast here. We arrived around 9:30a and were able to get a table outside. I got the waffle with two eggs over easy with sausage. It was good. My friends both got an egg scramble and really liked theirs. A bummer of being outside were the pesky hornets that kept buzzing us but other diners at other tables had it worse. Sitting inside was not really an option as the place is tiny.
One of the best breakfast spots in Portland. Charming staff, great value for money, and just quaint, cozy, and welcoming. So happy to have Bertie Lou’s in the neighborhood! … scratch that… so happy to be in Bertie Lou’s neighborhood! :)
Must go!!! Breakfast, brunch/ lunch restaurant!!
Absolutely heartwarming staff!
Fantastic, home-cooked food!
Reasonable prices and portions of food!
Fun loving neighborhood!
Great hole in the wall place, service was quick and hilarious. The napkin wall art is unique and menus are quirky and funny. The place is small but there is outdoor seating.
They do an amazing job for being tiny and as busy as they were. Service was a little slow, but staff was friendly and helpful and the food was great. Worth a stop
Very good biscuits and gravy. Benedicts are remarkable too. A very busy place, so expect a little wait.
Obsessed with the place. Old school diner vibes with amazing food at an unbeatable price.
Imagine this; it’s your first time visiting Portland, you wanna experience the best things the city has to offer. For me, personally, I always search for the best food joints because that’s how I like to experience a new city.
Now imagine, it’s Sunday morning, the hottest day of the year, you’re getting ready for a 6-hour drive back home and all you can think about is getting some breakfast to keep you fuelled through the trip. Took an extra 20 minutes, 15 minutes if I’d taken the right exit the first time, out of our way to this small cafe on the edge of Southeast Portland and was it worth it!
I’m no gravy expert, but the gravy and biscuit at this joint is fantastic. I had “The Works” which included all your breakfast essentials; sausages, eggs, home fries, and of course the biscuits and gravy. The atmosphere was welcoming and lively, and the service from everyone was friendly. The wait for our food? It was brought to our table by the chef and I would barely consider it a “wait”.
Overall impression; Fast, Friendly; Freaking Delicious. Worth the detour, and worth driving back 6-hours for. 5.1 ⭐️s
Honest, quirky establishment with good quality food for a real decent price. They’ve been in business since 1943 and they are always a full house.
Best to come here for breakfast. Sit at the counter or wait for a table. Plenty of free parking out front. Nice picnic size tables for 4 outside, of the weather is also fair.
I got the veggie scramble that came loaded with Zucchini, onions, tomato, spinach with a side of country potatoes (a little over cooked) and choice of toast. Matthew got a breakfast plate with sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs alongside biscuits and gravy. Our coffee was so good, they kept pouring the rich brew.
Bring a pen and leave a piece of napkin art!

Nice breakfast selections. Several varieties of eggs Benedict. It is a small old time diner. Outside tables are available.
