I have been here twice now. The first time I was fairly drunk on Halloween a few years ago and we had a lovely time. This time it was sober and I am happy to report it is still a lovely place to be. Some of the food decisions are questionable in my opinion, Like I'm not quite sure why they still put pickles on the Hawaiian burger, I went ahead and tried it with them just to humor them and immediately took them off. I get the impression people don't get the salad very often because it's definitely a pile of lettuce with some of the onions and tomato from the burger stuck on top. Still tasty but obviously not what anybody was meant to be doing here.
Got to try a bite of my friends French toast and that was very tasty. Other than the pickles my Hawaiian burger was very good, shout out to them for honoring my request for extra pineapple.
Do wish that the meal specials were somewhere easier to read because I didn't notice them until I got to the counter because they weren't up on the top board. I appreciate that the staff are friendly when you're talking to them and then they don't bother you again.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast at the Original Hotcake House so much that we came back a 2nd time before we caught our flight back home. I had an egg white omelette with veggies, bacon hotcakes, and my husband ordered the Meat Lovers Omelette with hashbrowns.
Both my husband and I thought that the staff was nice, our food came out fast and hot, the portion sizes were huge but most importantly we left stuffed & satisfied. You should definitely check this spot out if you're in the area.
Adding to the "go again" list. The quality and pricing are excellent. Directions for proceeding to order your food are very clear. The cashier/server was very friendly. And sitting down, I noticed that everything looked tidy and clean. Nothing was broken or in disrepair. So hard to find solid new places to eat. Only $20 for two people, which seems harder and harder to find! 10/10 for and American breakfast!
9pm Sunday was quiet when we walked in but several couples and a family walked in as we were eating. Gilbert was friendly and chatty. The hotcakes are fantastic and I will absolutely be coming back just for them. It’s pretty quiet unless someone picks a song on the jukebox. You order and pay first before choosing your seat.
Wow, I just had the most amazing first visit to the Original Pancake House in Portland! Let me tell you about the "Ultimate Burger" I ordered – it was an absolute flavor explosion. The patty was perfectly cooked and juicy, topped with gooey cheese that melted in my mouth. And that fried egg? Oh man, it added a delicious creaminess that complemented the other ingredients so well.
But wait, there's more – the ham and bacon were the perfect combination of savory and crispy, adding that extra layer of texture and taste. And let's not forget the fries – they were absolutely great, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
I couldn't help but snap a picture of this masterpiece before I devoured it. I mean, who wouldn't want to capture such a mouthwatering work of art? Every bite was a burst of flavors, and I was in foodie heaven throughout the entire meal. This visit to the Original Pancake House was beyond my expectations, and I can't wait to go back for more culinary adventures!
Food was amazing! The guy who took our order was so kind! All around good experience. Just found our new brunch spot! Highly recommend.
3/19 7:30 am HOT & DELICIOUS
I have absolutely no complaints about this establishment whatsoever. We arrived, and it was very quiet and clean. We ordered right away. We saw our food promptly prepared in front of us, and it was served piping hot. Our dishes were prepared perfectly; the portions were plentiful, and, it was a good time all in all.
The hotcakes 🥞 are delicious. The chicken fried steak was delicious. The hashbrowns were delicious and crispy. The coffee was a little weak but that’s OK because it was fresh and hot and I was able to have 2 cups. Nice greasy breakfast food is always welcomed on a Sunday morning.
Staff was friendly, welcoming, efficient and we enjoyed our visit. They’re doing a fantastic job keeping the restaurant stocked and clean. Coffee and creamers were full and so were all of the condiments.
We will be back to try some lunch items!
Trying to decide whether to stop in? You are about to miss out if you make any other choice.
While we all long for change in many things in the world, one thing that should never change is the perfect and pristine breakfast served at the Original Hot Cake House on Powell Boulevard.
Though I haven't lived in this area for many years, every time I visit P-Town, I make a stop here. And every time I still see the bright yellow awning, and and the lights on, I breathe a sigh of relief...They're still around!
It's all the same, only with an updated floor and some new chairs. The same place we used to crash late nights after dancing in the '80s. The same place I took my husband 30 years later to demonstrate what I mean by a great breakfast 😄.
Fluffy scrambled eggs, thick plank bacon, massive and flavorful pancakes, real maple syrup. Fresh, hot coffee, real half and half.
Don't let the outside fool you. All the locals know the secret of this gem. Please keep this business open by coming often.
Until next time, THANKS HOTCAKE HOUSE!
Great food but no room to move around... No wheelchair could make it around because of how tightly people stand... I was there on a busy day, though. The coffee and water station was on one side of the line and my table on the other, so no easy refills. Enjoyed my time and the meal.
The breakfast is good, delicious, there is plenty of food. The orange juice is small for a Medium which is what I chose and I didn't like the taste.
