Mehri's Bakery and Cafe is a place where the community goes for some of the best from-scratch yummies around! The people are genuinely friendly and if Sid is there, you might even get in a game of chess. I pop in there regularly for Mehri's own roasted coffee, chill time, and great eats.
Great atmosphere, friendly neighborhood cafe with delicious food, homemade fare. A hidden treasure in the neighborhood.
Hidden Gem. Mehri's is a rare find! Who would expect to find a great place to eat with homecooked meals and fresh baked goods in an out of the way location such as this. Everything I've had there has been wonderful. Turkey meatloaf with amazing mashed potatos, the salads, and breakfasts I've had, all have been big portions, fresh and delicious! She even makes homemade bread! I've been very happy with everything I've had, and Mehri is a top chef!
Great food, family business. The owner takes your order with a smile.
Real home cooked food in a friendly clean atmosphere
I mean it when I say, it's the best breakfast se has to offer. I just had breakfast with my girlfriend there and it was unusually wonderful. I had buscuit and gravey, she had huevos rancheros both tasty. This will become a popular rest.
Delicious comfort food. SOOOOO I, being a young and stylish O.G. Portlander who has done the cool tour of America (LA. Brooklyn, SF, Seattle) myself, would have to rate the interior of Mehri's as poor and unappealing, but what can one expect on SE 52nd and Flavel? A shining example of a mid-century masterpiece? Nope. Gimme a break. Give me a break from all the slicked out, overpriced, annoyingly avante-garde, and unfriendly places to eat. Bring me back to earth and give me some friggin tasty meat loaf sammiches and mashed potatoes. Give me three choices for a main course. Give me five options for a side (all made that day because Mehri felt like it!). Give me the comfort of hippy Grandma's house after a pot luck with her quilting club. Give me Mehri's Little Flower Bakery and Deli. Her cakes and pies and other sweet things are absolutely delicious (her pies are fantastic and beat the hell out of my grandma's and that's saying a lot). She will sometimes have some traditional Persian dishes on the menu and I loooove that. I went there yesterday with my boyfriend and his parents and it was perfect. I had the Mac n Cheese with Broccoli, He had the Stuffed Chicken Breast and they had the Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes. Blueberry-Gooseberry Pie A la Mode and a very nice looking Chocolate Raspberry mini cake was devoured by us already stuffed patrons. Mehri's place is warm and friendly and CLEAN and above all it's yummy yummy good. Hell yeah.
I stopped here after I saw a sign for biscuits and gravy and CFS (country fried steak). I am SO glad I did. The food was phenomenal. From the gravy that is def homemade to the eggs that had yolks that were bright yellow/orange so you KNOW they were good, even down to the iced tea, it was ALL homemade and didn't come in a frozen slab. The toast? Fantastic. Jam? Same. The potatoes that I didn't even know I needed until I ate them? PERFECTION. The country fried steak is NOT the usual coated in thick breading that comes in a frozen box. It is fresh sirloin that didn't need even a plastic fork to slice, coated with delicious gravy and pan seared with very light "breading." I had never had it like this before and it was amazing. So glad I stopped, cannot wait to go again!
The service here was stellar. I appreciated the comfy feeling when so many other places are embracing a more bland aesthetic. The patio is nice and shady, but a little noisy from passing traffic. But I didn’t care because I was eating a delicious pulled pork Benedict! The servings are large and the coffee flows…5 stars well-deserved!
Great pastries and some of the friendliest service I’ve ever had from the staff. Also, free coffee refills, even to go. It gave me a nostalgic feeling of an old diner
Awesome service! Very tasty and delicious breakfast!
Mehri and her crew were personable and friendly! Vibe is perfect!
Quite tasty, and good portion sizes, but still quite pricey even considering all that. I definitely get it cause costs are high these days, but still hard to swallow :/ Otherwise I’d rate 5/5.
The staff work very hard and were very personable, but it was clear they could have used at least one more body, at least when I was there.
Casual, relaxed dining, friendly staff, and generous servings make this a great place to fuel up for the day ahead or recharge for the next round. Definitely adding this place to the rotation.
They make the classics original. It was absolutely a treat and each part of breakfast was special. Will go back for sure !
Now, here's a restaurant that has to be moved to the top of your list...small, cozy and no frills. The "frills" are in the food and is it ever special!! Family run with indoor and outdoor seating....
We had brunch...yummy chicken fried steak with gravy, cheddar cheese scramble and waffles with a side of bacon. Bonus house made jam and bread as well as a tasty version of escalloped potatoes! Best corner of the restaurant is the bakery...😍😍😍
I wanted to really love my chicken fried steak, but it wasn’t breaded, so it lacked the usual crunchy texture. The staff was lovely. The jam was homemade. My friend hash was fabulous! My potatoes were great!
The cake tasted great but didn’t love that they put little balls on a two year olds cake as it seemed like a bit of hazard.
