I currently live inPhoenix Az but when I lived in the Portland area just loved going to this place best teriyaki chicken in town I never minded the wait here it was worth it and that salad dressing aposolutly the best!!!!
The food is wonderful! The salad is delicious, the rice is perfectly cooked, and the meat is tender and flavorful. They don't go crazy with the sauce which is great - you can customize to your own tastes. We brought our three young children in (including our autistic toddler who was at first loud and fussy before settling in), and the staff was all smiles and excellent service. We will be back for sure.
I used to come to this place constantly when I lived in Portland. The last time I had it was probably 2018 or 2019 and it was just as good this time as I remember. Still the best teriyaki I have found. I move and travel in the states a decent amount and have a hard time finding teriyaki as good as this.
I’d say earlier in the day the quality will be better than right before close just as a rule of thumb for teriyaki but even before close I’ve always had great quality
I’ve been visiting this restaurant since I was old enough to chew my own food. A true Portland staple. I Got the opportunity to check in on my top 10 Portland restaurants during my trip home Portland recently. Du's Grill. I was overwhelmed with memories of highschool lunch trips to this wonderful eatery. I got to bring a friend for their first time too. She was so delighted with the portion size and the sauces. always a pleasure DU’s till we meet again. (You know I bought a teriyaki sauce and a salad dressing to go)
This is the original and only tru Dus in Portland and it's surrounding areas. This is truth as I believe it, please correct me if I am in error. Years ago there was confusion involving locations.
What restaurant has the luxury to only have it's doors open for one shift Monday-Friday (11:00a.m.-8:45p.m.), and closes on the weekend? Du's does. And it's patrons are greatful for those hours. They put out a small menu that they had perfected and we all have our favorites. My go to is is grilled chicken, pork or a combo, place over a mountain of sticky rice, with a side salad. They are always nice and always BBUUSSYY! And we are happy to wait. I've never liked teriyaki bowls or things of that nature, but it only took one bite and there was no going back. Also, the portions are big enough for lunch and dinner.
I'm proud to be a patron of a family owned business.
I would recommend anyone and everyone to try it no matter what. Take care of each other.
This place is still the best. The spicy chicken was great, I saw a couple reviews saying it didn’t taste authentically Korean which I didn’t experience at all. Gochujang was the primary flavor in the sauce which is about as Korean as it gets.
I do wish they served “for here” orders on platters still, not plastic Togo boxes. It seems pretty wasteful.
I did learn that the best way to get my son to eat salad is to douse it in Dus salad dressing, so there’s that!
All in all, great food and attentive service.
I had been going here for 20 years but hadn’t been back in a few years. I could smell that marinade from a block away! Soooo good.
Some special synergy happens when you add that teriyaki and dressing to the cold salad and warm rice. It’s like 1+1=5!
It's a great place to pick up lunch! Very popular. The place is jumping during lunch time. Very crowded, so please bring your patience if you go at this time of day! Really, I think it's better for take out. Just be aware, the parking lot is tiny. The staff is great, so please be nice. Unfortunately, they were out of the spicy chicken, so we had to get regular, but it's not too bad. If they had spicy chicken, and it was the same as a year ago, I would have given 5 stars (I had a bite of someone's last year) The chicken is grilled, and this is what makes it yummy. If you are on a diet, make sure to ask for sauce and dressing on the side, otherwise you will get teriyaki (lots of sugar) on your chicken and a ton of dressing on your veggies! Spicy chicken is the best though. If I hadn't been with my co-workers, I would have tried their kimchee too. 😋
I love their food, once you have it you will want to keep coming back. Still my favorite place to get chicken teriyaki. People are obsessed with their salad dressing, and you can even buy it by the bottle. My favorite thing about this place is the food comes up SO QUICK!
Hands down the BEST teriyaki spot in Portland!
Ps they do not use peanut oil int their fryers for those that have allergies 💖
This is definitely more of a quick dine in option. Also very easy carryout consistently delicious always smells like fire outside.
Good food made with local love. This place brings great teriyaki to the area. Delicious salad dressing and sauces. Meats are cooked with the perfect char and great flavor. Come and see the action in the kitchen, the view will make your mouth water.
