I like this thai restaurant... I like the decor, I like the menu, I like the location, and what I love is the presentation.... I knew when the satay arrived at the other table across the isle that our firecracker shrimp was going to be good and it was... I had the special which was a whole mango curry with scallops which also came with an exquisite salad. My daughter had the pad thai, the classic dish that is always a good choice and bottom line k My Thai Bistro was a great choice for dinner.
Great Food, Even Better Service. The minute you walk into this restaurant you're greeted by some of the sweetest and most sincere waitresses I've ever come across. They seat you promptly (I usually go for lunch, it's practically empty) and bring your drinks and samples of their soups. This place is extremely considerate of their vegan/vegetarian customers, I was informed of any animal ingredients before I could even ask. When they hear you're choosing veggies over protein, they ask all the right questions to make sure your dish is safe to eat. They also know how to make a dish wonderfully spicy but in a way that leaves you able to taste the ingredients. In a sea of apathetic Portland servers, I've only had spectacular service here and it keeps me coming back.
Fantastic food and spectacular service! Best coconut shrimp that I have ever had! I would highly reccomend this restaurant!!!
Large portions for lunch. Good quality and competitively priced.
Hands Down Best Thai Food in Portland!. Best Thai Food in Portland by far, I have tried them all and always keep coming back here for more! Never have ate anything bad here!
Beautiful place, nice people, delicious food. I really enjoy this place. The food is pretty consistent. Plus they don't use fish sauce in most of their dishes, unlike most other places in town. Even the others I've tried that say their Pad Thai is vegan, you can smell the fish sauce, let alone taste it right away. Someone else posted that they had "runny pad thai" here. I doubt it. I've never experienced this, and I eat here a lot. Like, a lot. Pad Thai is one of my favorites.
This place is super careful about food allergies, which I appreciate. They can make almost everything on their menu gluten-free, as long as I remind them when I order. Nice wine selection, too. Their tom kha is actually all coconut milk, no dairy (also rare, I've noticed). Very authentic northern Thai.
I can't wait for summer when they have lovely outdoor seating available--great for people watching. I've been consistently happy with everything about this place.
P.S.
My waitress said they're probably going to try a happy hour starting this summer. I'm also super-excited about that! Anyone who goes here, please ask about it to encourage them!
Lovely tan wood Ddcor with a true sense pf proportion and balance. Every dish was lovely and a surprise of taste and interest. Spice ranking system is clear and effective. Flaws? Rare steak ordered with care. Came well. And one of sixesls came ten minutes behind the other five. To! You'll me glad.
Pretty good.... The lady who owns it is super nice. The pad phet is really yummy, and is my favorite in Portland. Everything else is good, not amazing, but always good. They have good soups too. And they have decently priced lunch specials. I've tried most of the menu, and never had anything horrible. The only thing that I love there though, is the pad phet. It's sooooo good. I crave it sometimes.
This place is classy enough for a date but priced right for a casual meal too. We get takeout here at least once a month and the quality and presentation never disappoints. Lots of vegetarian gluten free and vegan options as well... oh and brown rice! Highly recommended if you are looking for yummy Thai food on Hawthorne!
Came here for a birthday dinner/date - could not have picked a better place! The staff were all courteous and engaging, as well as fun to talk to and very knowledgeable about the menu. We got honey ginger tea which was amazing, and the fried rice and khao soy were absolutely amazing. The restaurant is beautiful, with a great atmosphere and thoughtful decorations. Though neither of us have special food restrictions, the staff were very thoughtful and offered vegan and gluten-free options and took the time to discuss allergens with us. An amazing experience!
The food and service were amazing! Attentive service with hot towels brought to the table and great drinks/appetizers. We got there on a soup special day so they brought us some sampler soups that tasted great! I got pad thai and it was really good, as well as gluten free, so my mom could eat it too. It feels very high-end and the prices are reasonable considering how good the food is!
At first the menu is a little overwhelming. Almost too many choices. But since the entrees are so large I got a curry dish and convinced my hubby to get noodles and then we could share. They ask how spicy you want each dish which is nice. The pineapple curry was great. The sweet pineapple balanced great with the heat of the curry. Hubby's noodle dish (I forget which one he got) had the most tender scallops I have had in ages. The prices were a little high, but the servings were big so I didn't feel like they were overpriced. Definitely want to go back to try more curries. The decor and plating felt too fancy for the food. But overall, good stuff.
Five stars all the way. The service was fast, efficient, and friendly. I loved the food presentation, it looked balanced and clean. As great as my meal looked, it tasted so much better! Perfect amount of spice for my white-boy mouth (you choose spice level). The portions were healthy and my left overs were just as amazing. Will definitely revisit.
This is my wife and my favorite Thai restaurant. I have been coming here since they opened about eight years ago. The red curry is truly exceptional food. The environment and service are also both exceptional. Everything about this restaurant is distinguished and set apart from - and above - the competition. The negative reviews here seem to describe some other restaurant altogether. They do not jive with my own experiences at all.
Awesome, awesome food. I'm not an eggplant guy, but their stir fry eggplant dish was out of this world. Great service by the business owners, who work in the restaurant. Surprisingly reasonable prices given the restaurant's location. Great cocktails from the bar as well. Highly recommended.
Don't mistaken this bistro with another Thai restaurant (on Belmont with the same name)
Staff is friendly. Food is delicious, spiced to order. The menu is descriptive. Japanese sake is on the wine list. Parking is right in front by the street.
Advice: (1) curry dishes are very good. The 3 scoops of rice is not enough to enjoy the curry sauce. You need to order a bowl of rice as a side. (2) Recommended chicken, seafood or tofu instead of beef because Thai beef is always over cooked and become dry. (3) Don't miss the sticky rice with mango.
I have my favorites from Vancouver to Medford, My Thai Bistro ranks in the number one spot for me, flavor is so unique my palate was surprised!
I mix my own drinks @ home and am usually disappointed with most places, but here, there old fashioned was so balanced I savored it rather than shoot it down. Kudos, bravo!
I've been coming here for years, and not once have I been served a dish that was less than satisfactory. Great staff and owner, and amazing food to match the beautiful ambiance. I recommend it! Try the curry with kabocha squash...make it spicy! I order a 10 or 11 on their spice scale. 🍜
