Dub's St Johns is a five star restaurant. What loosely describes African American cuisine, i. e. the descriptor soul food, is of the most difficult plate to prepare consistently. Transitional elements due to the many legions of restaurants that have attempted to market this brand makes successful recipes for these dishes both daunting and unpredictable. Cooking is all about the authentic and repeatable taste, and Dub's St John has found its niche. My experience might be representative of what other customers encounter, and why that night the dining area was full. The menu reads the epicenter of what baby boomers expect: A robust list that include chicken, brisket, fish, and a rich cache of sides i. e. greens, cornbread, mac&cheese, sweet potatoes. The level of customer service equals that of the best dining houses in this emerging food capital city. Jovial and bright, the server set the tone. The time between order to kitchen, to table is naturally different then the fast food chain because each plate is individually prepared. Its why upon arrival of my dinner of catfish, greens, and mac&cheese passed the optical and smell test. The food is delicious. I will work through the menu, and word of mouth to friends and acquaintances that Dub's St Johns is a gem. My only complaint: I want some ox tails! I strongly urge you pitch this establishment for your business meetings and personal outings.

I went yesterday for the first time and I was impressed. The chicken and the catfish were seasoned to perfection. The bow tie & cheese was cheesy, flavorful, and delicious. But what stood out the most was the hospitality. The owner came to our table and introduced himself. He is very welcoming and humble. I highly recommend Dubs...you won’t be disappointed!

This was my wife and I second time at Dub's. We really liked the new location and the atmosphere. The food was very good the catfish was on point. We felt for the price of the brisket dinner the portion of the brisket was a very small amount, could had a little more on the plate. Overall the flavors were very good and satisfying.

Absolutely delicious! Their fried chicken is crispy perfection, not overly seasoned, with a touch of lemon. The brisket is also tender, and the collard greens are cooked just right. No soggy leaves here. The atmosphere is very nice and staff is friendly and accomodating. Music isn't too loud. Comfortable seating. Thank you for your hard work, Dubs! Will be coming back for sure!

I've been coming here for years and its always consistent. I eat a lot of fried chicken and this is my favorite in the city. The catfish is light and crispy, all the sandwiches are good, and the bbq is great as well. Fried chicken is cooked to order, that's why its good, so expect to wait. It's worth it. I'm looking forward to seeing the new location in downtown St Johns.

Best fried chicken and wings on the North side. Fried catfish is awesome. Their fries are fantastic. And the owners are great to boot. Must experience it yourself to understand. University of Portland students don't know how lucky they are to be so close to this place. They even deliver to the university. It's part of a nice local dive bar (Ranger Tavern) so for those U of P students who are of drinking age can take advantage... looks like they even have a local band on weekends. You won't regret it.

Not really what I was expecting. The food is southern bbq style, basically good comfort food. I was boring and had the chicken tenders, but they were really good, freshly made with a nice spice. Only 2 choices of beers, I had the Dubs Pils, and it was not a bad beer. I was really expecting more of a funky atmosphere, but instead it was more upscale, and seemed to be missing a personal touch. There were a number of families here, so it's family friendly. Service was great! Edit- I understand that they are going out of business, so check before you go.

I was lucky enough to find this treasure just shy of a year ago The food fabulous! The staff is great. I recommend the meatloaf (too die for). The collard greens are cooked to perfection. I have never has a bad meal here. This is my go to place to bring out of towers, the always love it The only negative thing I could stay is that the corn bread is lacking, but that is a very small thing.

Food is hot and ready. Brisket was delicious and tender, no fat, the Chicken cooked to order, generous portions, cute seating area. Waffle batter too dense but good. Better if fluffier. Cornbread was hard. Those are my only complaints.

AMAZING food, great staff, and cool atmosphere. Some nights have live bands. There's a separate bar area which I prefer to the main dining area but as a whole; great for a date night, special occasion, or if you want some damn good homestyle barbecue. Best pan cooked catfish I've found yet. Mac and cheese and brisket is fantastic too.

Great service, staff and food. They care about their customers! I observed a customer that was in a hurry although the staff was unaware of his limited time once they were notified they expedited his order AND refunded the cost of his meal! Great job Dub's in caring for your customers!!! We were impressed and asked them to cater an event.
